Well lets say you got a melody in your head, or your playing around on the keyboard and find a melody that you really like. How do you got about finding the tempo of whatever it is you have in your head? I'm thinking maybe I'm not doing something right, because I always end up going faster or slower than my original thought.

A way I go about this is to create a very basic drum pattern and adjust the tempo till the melody fits. Simple, but it works!

i put on some hihats like 1/8 basically wat PUG does. if the tempo changes its fine, the melody isn't the most important part and if it makes you listen more than the original its good.

if you have a "tap" function... like in ableton... lets you tap on your mouse or keyboard and it calculates the tempo you are tapping at... but apart from ableton, idon't kow if any other hard/software has this ability...

i can tap time on the metronome on my mpk49... I'm sure there are other ways to do it in most DAWs though.
