The real title of this thread should be "records your friends told you to buy and you ending up disappointed".

1996. I'm DJ'ing at my friend's house and he tells me that I REALLY NEED TO BUY Ginuwine's "Pony" 12". I asked him WTF "Pony" was and he told me to just buy it. It's dope. It's wicked.

Me: "Is it R&B?" (because I knew pretty much all Rap artists).
Him: "Just buy it".

The next day I'm downtown so I pop into the Tabou record shop and see the 12" to "Pony":

Being that it's an actual horse/pony on the cover, and for some reason it looks like an x-ray to a horse's head, I'm thinking "WTF is he talking about?". So I buy it anyway because I trust my friend.

I get home, throw it on the 1200 and hear this:

So I call him up.

Me: "WTF is this shit?".
Him (very excited voice): "DID YOU BUY IT?!?!".
Me: "Yes. WTF is this shit?".
Him: "You don't like it? C'mon man it's amazing".
Me: "No. WTF is this shit?"

So at the end of the day, don't trust your friends.

What are some of your experiences in buying music that someone recommended to you?

I have no regrets buying shit people have recommended to me. That being said, I only buy about .05% of what people recommend because I have different taste in music.

I do have a copy of this though, the one record in my collection that stands out from the rest.

I know Pony was really popular but I just thought it was ridiculous. I did try to beat juggle it though but couldn't come up with anything. :(

This is going to be controversial probably, but...Kanye West Registration is the album I bought that I enjoyed the least.

I listed to it once all the way through then didn't come back to it for years. Now there are 2/3 songs on it that I like, but the rest I just can't kick it to.

Which is weird, because on paper it should have been one of my favorite albums that year.
