Turn people down when you are somebody. A nobody turning people down is a big joke... Jimmy Page used to do studio work in order to eat until he founded Led Zepplin...

I think "artist integrity" is a line used far too often. if you're the shit, I can understand, but some bum ass dude shouting about not selling out is a waste of everyone's time. If you don't need the money, then no big deal... if you did however, call him back and say you'll do it for $150.

yeh i think you should have done. It's no good complaining about something then being in a position where you could improve upon it, then turning it down.

Thats just me tho

Some of the greatest stuff ever came from a musical genius getting into a different art form, often times ones that weren't considered the greatest... why not use it as an opportunity to improve on the art form?

Stress, in a version English that would put a lobotomy patient in the same category as Hemingway in comparison to the atrocity above, you have distinguished yourself as just another pseudo-art zealot who doesn't know what he's talking about.

Do you know how many fantastic, very important artists had to do little things like this to survive? I'd far rather a talented artist do some work to keep himself eating so that he can do his real creating... famous painters in the past did portraits just to eat, so that they could leave us with the masterpieces we have today. I think the word "artist" is overused, especially in this industry where the average talent quotient is very close to nill. I very much doubt that this guy will be doing stuff like this left and right, but if a few commissions help a really talented person focus on some great work, then why not?

So much bullshit comes out of people's mouths.

Okay newbie. Let me break down "what I don't know what I'm talkin' about".

Art is art. A way of expressing one self. I know what certain artists had to do,,,yada, yada, yada,,,Look man, if ya gotta compromise your art form to get paid then that makes you anything but an artist. Once money is involved then the artistry goes out the window. I've been offered money before to make a track that wasn't my style and I've turned it down as well,,,a few times actually. If you want to be dedicated to this thing, and stay true to yourself, then you need to have somethin on the side to make that loot for the next venture, or the next piece of equipment,,,,ya dig? Thats where I'm comin from.

My tracks are from the heart. And yeah, they do have price tags on them which contradicts what I'm sayin to a point, but at the same time, I know that the tracks I make have a certain vibe to them that certain emcees will be attracted to. This is the distinction my friend. So please stop runnin ya mouth about me when you don't know my views or my music. I'm not tryin to get internet gangsta on anyone,,lol,,,but please watch what ya say. Everybody is entitled to an opinion and I will respect it even tho I dont agree.

@ BASTARD: What the Hell does mopping have to do with anythin???? Moppin aint no artform. lol I feel what ya tryin to say but dude,,,,,,Boston Sux!

I have no problem with the viewpoint that you just expressed, you explain yourself well. However, don't call me a newbie. I've been in the music business longer than you have, and I'm at least as good if not better at it than you are. Artistic integrity is intensely important to me, but I am able to make a distinction between building a house and building a monument...

i'm predicting that this thread will be closed by the end of the week...

but before it is let me interject.

i dont know kurtis rich. but i think it is safe to assume that his financial wellbeing does not depend on this solitary reggaeton track. that being said, people act like he's obligated to do the track when there is money involved. if the case is different, and this is your solitary means of income, that changes things...If i got asked to make a reggaeton track, a reason i would turn it down (and believe me, 200 dollars would be very nice) is that i don't personally feel that style. therefore the quality of the track would suffer. it wouldn't be something i could put my heart and soul into all the way. i mean, i could but then it probably wouldn't end up a reggaeton track. so the term artistic integrity is valid when you look at it like that. if you are going to starve to death if you don't do the track, then to it (i would)...and if you feel like doing the reggaeton track do it...as long as you throw your style into it. the most important thing is that you maintain your style...

it is true that a good producer is versatile while still maintaining his style. i could name a couple that i think do this but i dont want to start another internet war...

to those people that act like he's stupid for turning it down, realize that he would be stupid if that was his main source of income...but otherwise he has the luxury of turning it down.

ok thats my part in this thread...i'm gonna go make some beats now.
