...but I wanna get the data off of the C drive so I can get some of the music I was working on.

I bought an external hard drive case but it says I have to format the HD in order to use it, which would defeat the whole purposed. any of ya'll understand my struggle?

If your hard drive crashed you're screwed. Takes more work and you'll probably have to take to a professional. If your power supply, motherboard etc etc was the cause you should be able to recover your info.

Don't reformat. U need to set it to slave and you should be able to click and drag what ever you need off of it.

^ exactly, as long as you have a harddrive you can bootfrom u can set the fucked up one as a slave
