Whats up people, first off let me say: im honored to be on a forum with people who value hiphop.

Im no stranger to hiphop, I been writing lyrics since a youngin and I recently decided to pick up beat making as a therapeutic pursuit.... I need to work on my sampling and mixing/mastering skills though lol. This is a little chilled out beat I did, sample from Les McCann- Roberta:

I liked the vibe your going for man, captured that 90's NY. The mix does need some work though. The panning on the melody was a little too much, you should keep it centred and if your do wish to pan then not as drastic as it was. Visuals were nice but maybe some variation in the beat would have helped. Felt like a loop all the way through. Try dropping some drums here and there such as the kick for a section then bring it back in for some switch ups, also maybe play the counter melody alone then bring the top melody in. Keep going man.

Allow me to introduce myself my name is Nerl..... Just kidding people I am new to the community and just want to say a hello to everyone here. Hope you all working hard in pursuit of what it is you want and hopefully we can all help each other in our journeys. I have been producing for 3 months now and I am looking for feedback on my latest beat, inspired by 21 Savage and Metro Boomin. I will return all feedback on your projects too. Blessings and much love.

@.introspective Both of the productions are really smooth. As far as the first beat is concerned I reckon @Nerlens No Ls said everything. Personally, I like "Afternoon" more. There is more variety both in drum pattern and sample (addition of vocal sample). When it comes to details maybe snare is a little bit too dry but the sound of the kick is very nice. I can hear J. Cole rapping to this :p

@Nerlens No Ls Very good mix. You achieved good balance and in my opinion your beat contains enough layers. I mean, there is nothing to add and nothing to remove. It's something which sometimes I have to work on. ;) I don't have much to say about it since it's complete. I also like the sounds you chose and drum pattern. Very decent production. Keep it up. :)

@Beautiful Noise Hey, I remember you from when I was just a lurker, back when you flipped "Deborah", a song that's something of a '60s rock classic over here (I'm from the same city as the band that played it).

Anyway, it's not that often to hear a beat this slow, but the sample is decent. To me this sounds like a very early draft - I'd suggest turning up the hi-hats and changing the kick sample to something quicker, maybe less realistic, not to mention adding more musical layers and maybe some effects on the loop.

@.introspective I would try youtube tutorials they have a lot of great videos on different aspects of mixing. As for me I'm still learning as well I've gotten a little comfortable where i'm at which is a mistake because I feel you should always try learning new things to improve, there is always room for growth for everyone. Hope that helps.
