@Muszolini lovin the drums and them 808s easily a banger
@Marc Duncan those synths are straight fire man on the other hand i dont like those bells or whatever is that sound just in my opinion those should be a lil bit toned down
@Dzhi Beats love that vocal samples and that strings melody that starts aroudn 0:58 is excellent only i fell that 808s a lil bit disorted too much but nothing to drastic overall good beat
@KongoRampoozy loved the complete arrangement of the instrumental personally i dont like those low pitched vocals but thats just my taste overall really good beat has that some kind of 90s or some indie pop vibe to it
@TRIPLE EIGHT loved the feel of the "fire" beat only i feel i would be better on slower tempo loved how you choped the sample
@WIKTO-GRIZZLY really nothing to say here straight fire my man absolutly loving it

Ok well shit here i go first time posting! Im really new to making anything with fl studio so any constructive criticism is welcome I listened to some of the things on this page and a lot of you guys are insane at this stuff, so here we go :O

Really good. Is this your first time producing??

Hihat could do with being a little louder. The rest od the beat is very pretty and musically nice.

Thank you for the great feedback! :D I started teaching myself piano and using fl studio a few weeks ago and kinda got obsessed haha, played guitar in a band since I was young so not totally new to things like effects and eq but this is some of my first stuff solo and being the one creating the beat/mixing. Yeah I see your point I'll be sure to try boosting the hats next project, do you have any tips for eq'ing drums ? I feel like I either go to overboard or to subtle with where they sit in the mix

Then thats dope, Crispi one! Pisses me off when i see someone just starting and their shit sounss better than mine!

Here's my new approach regarding EQ... don't get too caught up in it;

If you find the drum sound you like, initially only eq it if you want to change something about its tone... otherwise leave it - leave everything!

When you mix them, just balance levels/volumes... when you find the right "volume" balance for everything then listen, if anything sounds a bit hidden or dull, then you can use subtle eq to bring those parts out.

Say you balance levels and everything sounds fine - don't even eq if you dont need to.
Maybe you balance everything but your kick sounds a bit hidden... then maybe carve out eq space with the kick/bass or boost some of the kicks skin.

Ultimately it's about how a sound sits in the mix, so unless it's a tonal decision, it's only worth eq'ing in context of the mix.

Also... lots of little eq is better than one big eq...

By this i mean, say you boost your hi hat eq by 1db... then you might boost high end on your drum bus by 1db then your master high end by 1db... that hihat will have been brightened by 3db by end of the track... if you boost it 3db at once it can sound a bit out or cause issue later*potentially*

when you say leave it, I agree except for one thing, especially on a kick drum, what I would suggest is cut below 20hz on every single mixer channel, there is energy in that region of the frequncy spectrum that we cannot hear, but it will effect your overall mix, as inaudible frequencies in that range have lots of energy that will stop you getting a good loud master and as you cannot hear them you wont know why. Sometimes you will take that even higher up to maybe 30hz to take some boom out of a sub bass.

I would say ALWAYS, whether its eq, distortion, compression or any other effect, ALWAYS do things with a purpose, never do them for the sake of it. Over equing channels can leave the final mix sounding thin as you have equed all the warmth out of it, if you dont go far enough then you end up with channels clashing with each other and bringing mud to your mix.
Mixing is an art just like production, many mixing decisions are also down to subjective taste, one mixing engineer will have a different result from another. Thats what you pay for with a mixing engineer, their style, which like production, is purely subjective, but with some rules and guidelines, like never clip digitally.

thanks for the tips my dudes you guys are legends ! :)

oh and also i listened to some more of the stuff in the thread i'll give my two cents bear in mind im no expert haha

@DiezeALAPROD this is totally not my style of beat but i still like it the 808 i'ts really bouncy ! i like the dissonant notes you hit gives it a really sinister edge, maybe you can throw in hat/snare rolls to accent it at certain places ?

@KongoRampoozy I love how jazzy this is it has such a cool vibe, the slight talking in the background is my favorite part. oh since I was speaking about fancy drum rolls i agree with 2good that there were maybe to many and should be spaced out more, that being said the rhytmn is really complex you're super talented :O

@Fantom 91 this one is super agressive it's some real gangster shit haha i think its dopel dont really have anything perticular to point out just think it's overall really solid! I need to find some vocal samples like those :D

@2GooD Productions The snare needs to be much lower in the mix and all the extra melody instruments you bring in are unnecessary imo.. I'd find a more subtle way of varying

@Khaly Beatz Cool vibe, nice 808. Mix needs work tho I'd say mainly drums the hat was too far forward for sure

@Fantom 91 Nice work dude. Real moody... I'd laye the kick with a sample that has more punchy qualities to help it stand out on small speakers/phones etc, same with the bass. Sick work tho big up

Here's my bit for the week

Thanks man, it's great to know that someone is listening to my work... listened to your beat now. I hate to say it but the beat became abit dull to the ear im not sure if it was the repetitive drum patterns or the melody. I think you gotta add abit more to the melody and spice it up with a new pattern on the drums and freshen up the sound abit. Sorry if this came abit harsh bro but had to be honest on this one. Nothing but love.

Just backing up what 2Good said... highpass filter (low cut) everything... bring up an analyser on each channel and just cut where there's no signal.
Alternatively do it by ear... increase the cut until you hear it; then back off. Just keeps any messiness out rhe way.

But in terms of eq'ing for mix (affecting the sound) subtle and only if needed.
I used to eq and compress everything for the sake of it. Waste of time and worry and *can* make things worse. Ha.

Low end is dope. The instrumentation is decent. This is hard. Good job.

I hope you are doing well!
This is my new melodic beat with a guitar.

Peace for everyone!
