@Memento BeatsThank you very much for this detailed feedback. I appreciate it a lot However, I have a few questions and I would be very grateful if you could clarify a few things so that I can get a clear perspective on what you mean.
"I think the 808, instead of supporting the beat beneath it should be driven more by side chaining"
I always apply side chain compression on 808 so that it ducks everytime the kick hits. Do you mean that sidechain should be harder?
"Also I think there should be a distortion filter" Could you please clarify what you mean here? If you reduce low range to 60 Hz those slides will be almost impossible to be heard. If I make slides in 808s I always leave space for 808 from 20Hz to 200Hz. The rest of the range is left for other instruments.
Personally, I think that 808 is on the right level as mix is not muddy with bass.
"More eq'ing in upper frequencies" Could you please clarify on that?
Thank you in advance for your response.
As far as your beat is concerned, it is a high quality production in my opinion. My favourite part begins at 0:31 when those scratchy sounds in melody appear. Really really good beat. Keep it up.
Dude, It was super late last night. sorry for confusing the heck out of you. Your beat sounds better mixed now that I've heard it a few more times. I think the 808 could be a little more present in the mix. This is Just my opinion. You can achieve this by adding some distortion to the mid frequencies in the 808 anywhere between 60-200 Hz. I use a distortion plugin in studio one 5 that can create distorting in any area of the 808 and leave the other frequencies alone such as the sub frequencies below 60 Hz. Its like a distortion filter. You can also achieve this by duplicating the 808 track, add that distortion, and eq just the mid range. Then you would mix the 2 808's together. One has the low sub frequencies that really boom in the car, and the other 808 has the mid range with slight distortion on it to translate to other speakers.
When the kick hits and ducks the 808, Its almost like the 808 becomes falls under the synths in the mix. This might be because I like hearing the mid range more of the 808.
Trust me when I say this its just my opinion and to be honest I could wrong. Maybe the way you did it makes perfect sense for what you were going for. If that's the case just ignore me. I am by no means a pro at this. lol I love your beats bro. You are well versed that's for sure. I will never have enough battle points to ever compare! lol
