I just chop all my samples in Audition. Then throw 'em in ACID. If I want to get complex with the loop, I use the chopper section.

Imma tell you what the biggest advantage of software is outside of the sequencing software its the precision chopping that you have and like some else mentioned chopping and then either using them in an mpc or sp1200 is the happy medium between software and hardware...

I dont like using computers. It doesnt feel right. Its like FinalScratch for dj's. Its cool. But its not hip-hop. Its just not the same.

I will admit editing on pc is 10Billion times easier, but i edit samples on the pc and send 'em to the hardware.

one last thing...

music is made to be heard, not seen.

OT that always kills me about how things are not hip hop. anything you use to get you to that hot track i sthe hottest way to do thingsbecause after al the tracks whats important. i love my mpc but sometimes i need the puter to do things that the mpc can't like clean samples.

I was going to go through a hardware route when I was buying my new setup, so i bought a hardware sampler. But then quickly sold it because it seemed in-efficient and time wasting to me to edit samples on a pc then transfer them over to the sampler.

It seemed more sense for me to just do everything all on one worksation.

I chop shit up in good ol' cool edit. I use to use Acid Pro, but it doesnt have things like the vinyl sample cleaner. It also has alot of effects too. Then I send each one my chops to a folder in FL STudio 4.

I'm suprised CE didn't get that many mentions

software and hardware, i think both got their advantages. its easier to work with sounds on a big pc-screen but u will not get the "fat" sound that an mpc makes of your samples, out of your computer - no way.
plus i(d) love to play my samples with the pads, cos there is no way of putting samples together manually, the way a drummer would play it. but u can find different solutions for that problem, like mpc-style usb pads for your pc, or playing drums with the masterkeyboard.

the truth lies somewher in between i think, like shaping the samples on your pc but controlling them through midi / extern sampler

Guys... an MPC is a computer sampler just like your computer. Yes, it is true... it samples at 16 bit 24 khz. It only sounds better because of its solid state preamps. Guess what... you can buy a tube preamp for your computer and beat the tar out of an MPC as far as sound quality. Believe it or not, it is a FACT!!! Don't get me wrong... anyone that uses an MPC... more power to them, but if you are buying it because it sounds better than a computer... you are high. Hell, my preamps in my Delta1010 are as good as the MPC's. I mean really... if you are using a SB live, you are not going to get a hot sound, you've got to have preamps.

I just sold my mpc2k for $650 because I am not using the thing for anything but a midi controller. Getting sounds in and out of it is PreHistoric. A complete waste of time. By the time I load my samples into the thing, I don;t want to jack with it anymore. I can get a real preamp for the computer ($700) and a MPD16 (Or better controller $200) for the pads and Fruity Loops($149)... and have a way hotter set up for less money.

I Love the MPC, but lets dispell the myth. It is an outdated piece of hardware (4000 not included, I have never used). If you love it, keep using it, but quit telling people that you have an edge, because you don't.

By the way, Antares Tube Preamp VST really makes a difference for low $.
