I need some help Illiens. I been working with the Mpc studio the last few months and working hard to get better at sampling. After some recent beats I made I feel like I made alot of progress but my beats still feel lacking. I feel like I put down a great foundation for a beat but changing it up and spicing it up is where I start having trouble so the beats end up just sounding they would be the chorus if that makes sense. Do you guys have any tips or tricks on changing up or adding more life to your beat?

Do you mean spicing it up by adding certain sounds, or the mixing part? For example, on drums you can try adding saturation and that will spice it up right away.

More like so it's not just the same repetitive loop but keeps the feel of the beat the same. When I've tried sampling different parts of the song it ends up sounding like 2 different beats. Hope that makes sense.

With sampling, a lot of times it's just the sample itself. I've sampled plenty of stuff I thought would be dope but ended up sounding like shit. If you start with a boring sample, most likely the beat will be.

Maybe focus on just a loop for now. Get that down with some drums and bass then add some little things on top.

When I sample I try to build a basic loop that will play over and over again without getting boring, once I have that foundation I will start adding some drums and then I will add some variation at the end of each 8 bars by maybe getting some more chops from the sample and mix that with some drum variation, drop out etc. There are many ways to make a basic loop less boring, the more you play with samples the more you will figure out for yourself what they are, making unquantised music fit with a quantised beat can be a challenge but once you get your head around it its all part of the fun

I did take take part of the sample that had vocals at the end of the of 4 bar loop and put at the end of the 8th bar instead of the 4th and I think it made alot difference. Thanks.
