How much time do you spend sampling your own drumz and how much pre-layering and equing do you put into it......I am finding that I like to use dry samples sometimes and add fx and equing mostly during mixing on each individual snare or bass sample....but I also find that maximizing my samples and doing this on the front end sometimes works very well too.....

If i find a good drum kit, i'll take as long as i need to, to get the drums eq'd and soundin nicely. Although, i'm still learning i got the picture in my head and i just try to go by it.. But i think that any drum if eq'd right will sound bangin... u know?

i'm pretty methodical about it. i just eq the drums to exploit whatever natural colors are there and move on. i usually grab 3 and 4 hihats and 3 snares and a bass kick or two. i figure out the layering when the beat is more complete so i can complement the production.

A lot of times I'll use preset drums first then sample drum sounds later and fill those in because I don't want to lose Ideas. I have a couple of drumsets so sometimes I'll sample snares bassdrums hi hats from my set and use that in tracks but it takes me a while to get the samples to sound the way I want them.
