For me, it depends on the sample and what sounds best. Most of time I sample my drums in mono but for some kicks and snares (depending on what source I'm liffing them from) I'll sample the drums in stereo to get a more full sound and capture the ambiance of what's going on behind them or maybe I'll sample a hot snare and then re-sample it through the ASR-10 with a just a little reverb to make it "shmack"!!! I always take into account what's going on behind the drums in the songs I want to sample.

if you listen to the drums in seperate channels - some channels have a harder hitting sound, or less hi's or whatever it is you want. So I use the channel I prefer and make it mono.

A lot of old records from the '70s have most of their low end content in either the left or right (usually left) so I do find its sometimes better to sample kicks from one side and hats from the other then just see what sounds good for the rest.

99% of the time I sample in mono
