Ok, I've read many posts here and there where someone will say "I'd even sample country music".... But what I really want to hear is an actual track using country samples... Has this ever been done succesfully? I know this is a kinda stupid post but I really want to know... Hell, I'm even up for a lil friendly competition to see if anyone can actually make a hot beat from country samples. I'm sure it could be possible but I sure haven't heard anything yet... Anyways, I just wanted to see what some other heads had to say about this. I might give it a try for fun but I'll have to see how long I can last listening to that stuff... Peace.

Whats wrong with sampling country? All that soul sampling is being done to death.

That Johny Cash dude has a song about grabin his guns, going to town and shooting shit up. Herd it on a film. Anyway.

I'm working on a track right now where I've sampled from Ronnie Milsap (he's country right?) And it doesn't have that signature country sound either with the twangy guitars and what not. It's a sweet soulful keyboard riff.

Joe Cocker and Ronnie Milsap are not country..Just for the record..
MF sample Willie Nelson if you want country..
Heres the thing on country and in general, As a grand generalization, country music is poor white folks "hood" music in general. It says the same shit that rap does generally. The lyrics are pretty awsome if you can get past the twang. They talk about prison the trailer park(ie ghetto) gettin high, gettin drunk, fighting , killing, cheating women(hos, gold diggers) cars, losin your job, heart break and a slew of other real life shit that everybody goes thru..
The only country I can REALLY listen to for a great length of time IS on the GTA San Andreas radio station.
But really lets not for get that Prince has written LOTS of country music and next to hiphop its THE largest market in the world(prolly bigger actually).
SO I say dont be close minded go listen to it and use it!

Exactly!!! I thought Milsap was country but anyway, you nailed it. Hip hop can't grow if the artists/producers/beatsmiths become closed minded!

I know every genre has it's good and classic songs and when I started this thread it wasn't my intention to trash country or sampleing it. I was more curious if it had been pulled off well before just because all the country i've ever heard didn't sound very good to use as samples at least for my style of making beats. I agree with the whole closed minded producer issue but it was the sorta joke I hear from time to time about sampleing country that just made me wan't to hear it done well. I've never heard much Bubba Sparxx (if any) I'll give it a try and see what they did for samples. Anyways, this is turning into an interesting discussion and thanks to all who posted what they had to say. Peace.

Yeah ture but any thread sparks convo and Ill tell you since the 80's slimey yellow bellied sea snake "producer/talent scouts/ tryin to get a finders fee fuckers" have been tryin to find the guy who can really combine the markets and make them a mint.
You may remember the rappin cowboy as of late..
What "they" dont see is the markets thrive because they are opposite, and they are opposite because those folks are to be kept apart to keep the $$$ up for the rich guys who's corporations are based on keeping the masses seperate..
OOPS soundin political but culturally it is sorta true..As long as we enjoy music thats what best mix and match what you can I'd love to hear it..
My advice slice and dice old folk and blue grass if you got the skills, cause its wayy outside our genre( but not if you know we are creating lol).

I dunno if it's just me but i read that several times and couldn't put the words to thought. I've never been strong with words and that's why I make beats and not rap so that one blew right past me. Sorry man could you try and explain that again? Peace.

He was basically saying.. Listen to and sample whatever sounds good to u. Enjoy MUSIC! don't label it by its genre.

then he said try sampling some older "folk" songs or old "bluegrass" if you got the skills. Cuz its way outside our genre (but now it if u know what we tryna create, becasue we tryna create some GOOD MUSIC. not... rap.)

Sorry beer drinking lol, what I meant was....
As long as we enjoy music, thats whats best. Mix and match what you can to make a beat and I'd love to hear it..

Sample and chop older "folk music" or maybe even "blue grass" if you can do somthing with it, because its not the normal thing that one would go digging through to make a hiphop record.

Does that make a lil more sense? lol

haha Sanova ,posted at the same time

Yeah, that's better I feel u now thanks for clearing it all up. Actually, I was kinda realizing when I started trying to chop up a country sample that no matter what genre of music a sample is from during the creation of a beat it's made into what we know and love as hip hop. I'll try posting the beat in the next showcase.
