i tried postin this in another phorum but lets see if you guys can help me out...

aka answer the questions...

lets do this team!

aight its like this.. been tryin to break this whole beat makin thing.. all i gotz is an mpc 1k a turntable and some of the dopest records outta this side of the world..

i don't have a computer but i can get access to one... public library.. (don't laugh) it ain't even got a cd player tho..

are we as producers limited to the samples we use... aight check its like this i copped this dope sample..

http://s58.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3DH9YPN3DD5XM3KK0LCT04SQPW
nothing special jus tryin to learn here..

i made some drums to try and put em to this sample.. but they is at 90BPM.. but they sound to slow to go wit this sample...

1.. how i find the EXACT tempo of THAT sample above.....

2. from searches on here it seems liek if i find the tempo of it, i can change it to whatever tempo i want, (time compress?)... but that'll slow the sample down and make it useless...say i slow it down to 90bpm?

3. how do i make these samples fit in the mpc... aka sample is bout 26 seconds long.. so i tried countin it out in bars came out wit like 9 and 2 beats?...but on the mpc i can only make bars either 9 or 10.. not in between so the loop is all off..

4. if i sample something, am i LIMITED to makin the beat at whatever the tempo of the sample is? ex. if i sample a 4 bar tune wit tempo of 148, i have to make a beat wit temp of 148 right? but aint' hip hop 80-95BPM.. it seems it might be too fast. ...

i saw this video by some dude called Dub J, he was talkin bout art of time stretchin which seems is what i may be tryin to get at... he was talkin bout he stretched his sample tempo to match that of his percussion(drums) wit soundforeg or some ish to make his orginal sample which was way to fash match his drums... is that what i'm tryin to do here?

hope this ish makes sense..

help a young IGNORANT a$$ punk out....

knowledge me... school me..

peace

the tap function on the mpc will help you narrow the loop bpm down....
when you follow the piano progression use that as you count...I am sure you are not getting 90 bpm from that sample as it is played....
it should be some\where in the range of about 67.629 or something to loop the 1st 16bars of that sample easily.....if you double that bpm you could come up with the hi hat bpm or other percussion you might want.....you want to use Time Stretch to speed or slow the sample down without affecting the overall pitch....harsh flanging can occur though when overstretching or slowing a sample down which affects the quality.....

got D*m i'm truly impressed how do yall do it... on the ova forum dude posted the bpm as being 67.6. pretty much what you came out wit.....

how do yall do it? (pretend no tap fuction on mpc)

the interestin part is this.... i'm at the public library right now and was able to get audacity on the computer here... that same sample was like 26 seconds i realized since it repeats itself i don't need the whole thing..

i chopped it down to about 4 bars, i counted them in my head.. 1,2,34, 2,2,3,4, 3,2,3,4, 4,2,3,4...

they have this program its MAD old, its called Acid i realized i could cheat cuz when you open wave's up wit it tells you the bmp..

now on that sample i chopped it sed this 16beats and 89bpm..

wuds up wit that then? if yall sed it was a 67.6 or is this acid thing buggy and its givin me the wrong thing? like i sed this acid program on here is mad old...

oh yeah by the way the computer here is runnin win 95 or at least thats what the about part on this acid program says...

let me know..

I dunno, I know acid used an algorithm based on the first down beat...it computes it or you tell it the first downbeat for me I dont trust a computer program as much as using my ear and tapping......my computation came from the tap method and then also I put that sample in 16 bars and adjust the loop so it was flawless that is what put my tap in check to get the .67 100ths.....feel me? its mathmatics for your ear.

You've asked this question before.

Are you using a drum loop or what?
Either way, time stretch the samples if possible. Finding the correct BPM isn't hard (if you got a tap function, doesn't the MPC1k have that?) Just gradually decreasing/increasing the BPM till you get a full 2, 4 bars whatever, would work as well.

Chop your drums up and sequence them on beat, or chop your sample up and sequence it on beat.

aight i jus REREAD the manual on how to use tap tempo and its not too informative...

at what rate do you tap it? i hear people say if you have 4 bars tap it on the snare of every bar... tried that and i'm guess its too delayed cuz the mpc don't register it?

also what if there is no snare or drum and its like a loop sample? then how and when do you tap it on the mpc to find out the tempo?

what if the sample is less then a bar long huh? say ike 3/4's of a bar of if its jus a bar?

jus lookin for clarification....

i'm likin what mpc and kurtis rich but i'm still to novice to comprehend specially the whole slice and rearrange it. thang? hmm....

thanks fella'z
