when you find a sample do ya'll take open instruments in say the first 10 sec of record or do ya'll take bits and piece of the song you want to sample from anyplace in that track. Do you typically use the sample you want with the original drums from that track or do you layer the drums by putting them over the existing ones? just curious-need some inspiration or new techniques to craft some beats.-that kid

i sample from anywhere in the track ok a lot of the time good stuff will be at the start but you should always listen to the track all the way through ! as for adding drums pretty much 100% of the time you should be adding some sort of percussion to the sample otherwise you havent really done anything !

You have to listen to the ENTIRE song. If it has a dope intro then I'll just loop it. If there is a tight loop I'll loop it and then add drums and bass. If it's a dope sample but there isn't a very clear place where you can loop. Then I'll chop it up and add drums and other bullshit.

I take bits from all parts of the song but I usually look for instumental sections with no drums or vocals over them then I chop and add my own drums

listen to the whole song...find what you like and use it...i personally like to use samples with only one instrument, with the exception of something like bass and horns together cuz its fairly simple to cancel out bass from horns and then cancel out horns from bass and use both seperated...it also gives it a different sound from the original...one thing i never do is use a sample with drums and other instruments on it, maybe its because im to lazy to tweak EQ's for so long, or because its a little less original, but then again its not your song to begin with
