wattup yall its been a long time..

im' still progressin in my beatmakin skills...

to make it quick for they kick me off this library computer..

how do yall do it?

i mean i got this perfect sample... its about 2 bars long and the tempo is at 114BMP..

i want to add drums to it but i want to make my drums at like 90 bmp basically have the kk s k s kk s k s u know snares hit on the 2 and 4 kicks on the 1,3's.. feel me?

but if the sample tempo is at 114BMP this won't work... i don't have a computer but was at a buddy house last night and he had the FIRST full version of fruity loops.. so i tried it on there..

i set the thing to 32 cuz again the sample is 2 bars.. tempo at 114bpm and it loops perfectly.. but when i try to add my drums like i sed UP above..

the drumsARE STUPID quick and it sound MAD retarded..

my tools of damage is a mpc 1k and NOTHIng else..

if needs i can go over to the homie house he has OLD a$$ computer wit windows 95 but its got old fruity loops and old sound forge 4.5 i believe and stupid old acid as well..

i'm guess i'm gotz to do something wit time stretch right? whats time compress then? whats the difference between the two?

whats change tempo?
cuz here at the library they got somethign called audacity and i see that on there?

aight hope yall can help me out or point me in the right direction..

i'm be back here like in an 1pm or at two once schoool cuts out..to see what yall wrote..

thanks

mad appreciated

peace

Well for one thing you need a computer. its 2006.

I know there is a time stretch function on the MPC, but i dont have one so i cant help you there.

The most i could reccomend is, since you know the original tempo, load it up into something like acid, and change the tracks tempo to whatever u want, then export the loop as a wav (once u've painted it onto the track in acid.. hope u know what i mean), and there should be an option to preserve the pitch..which u should do since you are dramatically lowereing the tempo. i mean, u dont want it to sound like god is talkin on ur track.

Thats pretty much all the advice i can offer based on the equipment u have access too.

nah fam NOT all us can afford computers wit internet connection.... but i do feel you on its 2006 and "NEEDIN" a computer... kinda.. i mean 2-3 years back NOBODY was using pc's to cop beats.. i mean I doubt that joint "nas is like" was made wit a computer... that ish is fire, so nno i'ma syain i'm fo sho you can make beats w/o a computer.. good lookin out on that tho..

nah ain't no time stretch on the mpc ver 1.06... but its like this... I KNOW I can slow down the tempo of sed beat.. but then IT won't sound the same cuz it gon be slow...

1. i jus wanno how yall peeps add "HIP HOP" drums to a sample thats 114BPM but still make feel of the song be at 90BPM's feel me? how do yall do it?

2. is time stretch THE SAME exact thing as time compress? which is the same thing as change tempo?

3. aight to recap i got a sample bout 3-4 secons long its 2 bars at 114BMP. i want to put my drums to it basically at kick kick snare kick snare, kick kick snare kick snare and so on and on... basically that works BEAUTIFUL at 90bpm but at 114bpm its not the same...

am i sayin it right? yall gettin me on this? do all this make sense?

let me know

peace

u definetly need to timestretch that shit, u cant add hip hop drums over a sample thats at 120 bpm and still have the drums hit on beat, u need to slow it down

I know. i got my computer free. And i fucks wit Net Zero Free internet. But every body has some type of thrid degree contacts (know someone who knows someone etc.) with a hook up on a discount. Computers arent expensive these days do to supply and demand. (depending on how "new and improved" it is)

There IS a way around this so listen up.
On the SP I made a track at 140 BPM and it plays like it is 89.]
The key here is going to be that mp.
Instead of dropping your snare on the 2's like normal you are going to drop them on the 4's only.
Instead of the pattern looping every 4 to 8 bars its gonna be like 8 to 16.
Do you follow me ?
You just expand the formula and think out side the box.
Try dropping the snares on the 4's only watch how that worx then drop your kix acordingly and post back,
Tell me what happened.

Max, contact a Guitar Center and see if you bring your CF card up there if they will put the new os update on the cf for you. If that don't work then try something else, find a way to get that update

id just like to point out that a computer is cheaper than an mpc....

but you def dont need a computer to make beats. how do you think they made beats for like the first half of the history of hiphop? it just helps a lot.

a computer isnt totally necessary but it would help out alot...but wit ur problem the only thing i can suggest is some sort of time stretching/manipulation

^^^^Hold on guys.... HEY! YOU NEED A COMPUTER!

lol... sorry, but that's the truth. most of the people that use MPCs that I know use it with a computer (specially the MPC1000)... it makes workingg wth the mpc a breeze! Without it, thing can get real complicated real quick! Just adding new sounds to your MPC is waaaay easier with a computer, where you can edit and mold your sound easier than you can in the MPC...

Of course, you can timestretch your sample with the timestretch option in the MPC...

1- Upgrade your MPC with the latest OS:
http://www.akaipro.com/software/OS/MPC1000/MPC1000_OS_v210.zip

2- look at the manual and, see how you can timestretch a sample
http://www.akaipro.com/documents/MPC1000/MPC1000_reference_manual_ver200.zip

3- Let us hear the heat coming out of the MPC!!!

main.. F@$*CKK a computer....

I was able to rock it... i'm guess this is what relic was tryin to get at.. but basically what i did was loop my 2 bar sample then copy n paste in the mpc and make it 4 bars and so on till i had 10 bars of my looped sample.... then all i did is play it back and jus tap my drums in at MY tempo.. slow n eazy.. kick, snare, kick, kick , snare.. ect..ect yall feel? is that what you was getting at relic and campo? campo let me see some of them "fast" beats?

is that how yall do it? or do it gotta be a better way at it? i mean time stretch can't be the answer cuz if you got a song at 140bpm n you bring it down to hip hop level 80-100bpm it GON sound "messed" up aka it won't be the same...

let me know..

n yo DON"T get me wrong.. i aint' against computers I mean fo sho I WOULD Love to have one.. but i'm sayin people been makin MUSIC mad time before the computer right? so it can be done.. probably jus mad harder.... peep that joint nas is like.. feel me?

oNe

p.s. gotta figure out a way to get songs to a pc to get em recorded so yall can peep it.. my homie got a basic pc so how can i do it?

How did it come out?
Uh oh yeah your going to need a program that will convert it to a wav. file
OR if you can get it burned to a cd...then your can rip it in windows media player.
go to soundclick.com set up an account and post in the show case!!!

aight well check out the price on that, $1550 as you can see, homeboy will let it go to me for $800, i'm talkin this is BRAND SPANKIN new... basically copped it tuesday night and realized what he gon do wit a computer?

so yeah everybody do got hookups in one way or another but you see that still ain't gon help me..

I mean what yall think? is $800 a steal for that joint? i personally think so... but obviously i ain't got 8 bills to throw around like that..

if you can get on the internet go to the akai website and download the new OS for the MPC1000 this gives you a timestretch feature, then you can slow the sample down to the right speed then just bang out your drums.

you can't just move the drums and put snare on the 4th instead of the 2nd because this halfs the tempo and if the original sample is 114bpm half of that is 57 which is way too slow for hip hop so you need to timestretch it !

but if you TIME stretch it changes how it sounds.. aka slower or faster... on my friends computer he has audacity and time stretch is called change tempo on there right? so i tried that to no avail.. cuz i had thought timestetch main change speed but not pitch... unless i'm wrong..

he also has soundforge 4.5 version and i see timestretch on there but all it does it change the length of seconds of the sample....

my problem is the libray computers have no way of allowin me to save stuff cuz they got em on lock... they don't even have floppy drives on em...

y dont u pitch it up a bit so its a faster tempo, then do that with the snares on 4. i think u mean on 5 tho. depending on how the sample is, if u speed it up to like 140 or somtn. someone mentioned that. i duno. but ye.

and with the library thing, find some place u can save that file on internet then. i duno any sites anymore tho. save it on internet, go to ur boys comp and dl it again.

or you could just chop the sample piece by piece and timestretch it to slow it down but still remain on key. this is what i do when i have a really fast sample, take it note by note, but it is time consuming but sometimes is has to be done

and it is 2006, if you are not using a computer for production you def. need one for other things, welcome to the new millenium!!!!!! our whole world will be soon run by computers and actually it kind of already is.....

oh fo show I DO know i need a computer, TRUST me its not that i aint' want one... its that i can't afford one, i mean a real one. was at a rummage the ova day n dude had a desktop like $200 but it was pent 2 80mhz 64mb max to 128... n i know enough that THAT pc won't do me much good i mean see yall say reason this recyle that and i looked at the specs and it seems like that pc would be two slow so rather save that $200 for a better investment right?

for my needs personally i think a laptop would be best plus they are pretty comparable to desktop systems now right performance wise, it seems in my research apple may be the way to go.. g5 or something?

i'm bout to be 27 i need to get back in the loop of things.. or i'ma be left behind..

hmm.. can you chop it to that level wit the mpc 1k? also how can it be done wit this recycle thing? i read a book that talks bout how that program revolutionized evertyhing..

2nd question hopefully fade DOESN"T shut me down again... jus messing guy, but uh can yal give me tips on the droppin drums sections i feel like a jacked up herb for even askin but d*m i'm not learnin it by my self..

the only pattern it seems i can do is the the kick, kick, snare, kick, snare and so on and on...

drop me some knowledge on how to improve that ish shoot expand that ish to somethign bsides that.. all my beats got that same pattern!!

let me know

i dunno what to say about that.

just throw the drums on last and make sure it fits the beat. that should work for you. place the kicks in different places. have more kicks, less kicks, etc. and play wit the snare
