Ricky Hatton's Overrated!

Anyone see the fight? I personally thought Hatton lost but he was awarded a unanimous decision. He was fighting (as usual) in front of a hometown crowd. For most of the fight he was outboxed by a relatively unknown Puerto Rican fighter from Brooklyn named Collazo. And in the last round (which seemed at the time would determine the winner) Hatton seemed to be out on his feet. The referee (who I thought was a ringer) seemed to continuously buy Hatton time by breaking the fighters up and repositioning them in the middle of the ring when Collazo had Hatton's back on the ropes and in trouble. He allowed Hatton to hold constantly and lead with his head throughout the fight. It's sad that this kid Collazo in the biggest fight of his life, put on a tremendous performance and had everyone in the building against him. And not once in the post fight interview did Larry Merchant (or anyone else from HBO) even mention a rematch when one was obviously warranted. Oh and by the way, Collazo was the champ heading into the fight. I've seen worse decisions, but this fight seemed to almost be a conspiracy. It wasn't just the judges. It was the referee and HBO as well. I mean HBO obviously has much more money to make off of Hatton then they do off of Collazo. One of the reasons why the sport has taken such a beating since the glory days of the 80's. I hope they match him up w/ Miguel Cotto so another Puerto Rican can finish the job Collazo started. I'm sure he'll duck him though.

Hatton lost that shit. I mean come on, he stepped on collazo's feet at least 4 times this fight. The nigga hits hard as fuck, ill give him that, but collazo won that shit. The ref was terrble too. and that last round, collazo almost knocked him down with a minute left. fixed fight? could it have anything to do with the fact hatton just signed a contract with hbo? hmm...

I agree, he lost that. He was bangin hard but I don't feel his style. Throw some punches, run in, hold, push him off and repeat. I felt bad for Collazo aswell. He was robbed! That's HBO behind that. Even if the judges had it 1 or 2 points for Hatton going into the 12th, Collazo should have had it! The last round was his by far. Like you said Buku, he was out on his feet! I thought for sure Hatton was going down when he got hit with that straight left!! His eyes rolled back and he looked like he was out of it for sure! That should have given Collazo the fight! He had him hurt and in Survival mode for the last round. I think Collazo won more rounds then they had on the cards though, shit was bullshit!

And honestly this was my first time watching a whole Ricky Hatton fight. I can now say that a Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto or Felix Trinidad would destry the man! Maybe it was because he moved up in weight but his performance wasn't what I expected with all this talk about him being so good.

No question...he's simply put...overrated....end of story. He's simply a poor man's Arturo Gatti....except he aint got the same heart. Let him fight Cotto in the Garden....it's a wrap!

Okay, after watching the fight again. I would have to give it to Hatton! Honestly, here's why. He kept moving Collazo back, landed hella body shots, threw more punches/landed more punches/scored a knockdown early (even though it was more of catching Collazo off balance, it was legit). It wasn't a stellar performance but it was enough to win. Watch it again, seriously! I still think he is a little over rated but this was his first fight at that weight and that has alot to do with his performance. A rematch is in the works. Collazo im midiately requested a rematch and said he will fight Hatton in the UK on his grounds this time. Hatton and his team accepted but it hasn't been made final yet. I would love to see a rematch though!!! I would like to see Hatton fight at his natural weight class too (Junior Welterweight). I think he could perform waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayy better. Sorry for the two sidedness here but I agree with Fury after watching this fight again.

I thought the fight was close so I can't argue if yous saw it for Hatton....I just thought it was a little suspect the way the ref kept guiding them into the center of the ring in the 12th round. Anyone that watches boxing knows you don't do that. You break the fighters up just enough to extend your arms and then let them back at it....instead he kept guiding the fighters away from the ropes which allowed Hatton to escape at least a knock down. Anyway I hope Collazo does get a rematch but if he goes to England...it'll be even more bullshit going on then in Mass. Hatton has to win a big fight in a hostile area to prove anything to me. His biggest claim to fame was beating Kosta Tzyu who some feel is done.....in England. Fighting an Arturo Gatti (even though he's over the hill a little bit too) in A.C., or Cotto in the Garden...now that would prove something to me.

Hatton's not bad....like I said in the title of the thread...overrated....

Yeah, that one surprised me too! It's like, do your Fuckin Sit-ups! I think he may have cracked his rib though! Either way, it was a nice shot! I have caught a Liver shot a couple times sparring and I can say that, that stuff will literally take away all of your energy! It's like you feel your insides lock up!
