Recording in a closet isn't good cuz it make the vocals sound boxy or trapped. I supposed you live in a 4 piece appartment at least?. why not put you (the recorder) where there is noise, and the guy that rap in another piece? If your wire isnt long enough, buy one of 50 feet for 20$ at your music store. Padding with foam could be great for dampening your room, but it will take you 20 layer to cut external noise comin in your room! No the best thing in your situation is to put the singer in a room where there is a low level of noise. Don't choose the bathroom, it sound like in a cave.

Maybe it jus depends on what bathroom yer rockin yer shit in then, cuz thats where ive recorded my vocals before and tha shit sounded butter. My bathrooms relativley very small tho and i think dimensions and what yer bathroom is made of makes a large difference in how yer recordings gonna sound too.
I say try it out and see for yerself if yer setup permits you to reach that far - i mean its worth a try right?

Yeah, i mean it depends with what material your bathroom is made. I was sayin that cuz most of tha time you got metal (wash machine and dryer) window, mirror, ceramic and other reflective surfaces. So it produce an ugly sounding reverb. Or as i said in another thread, using blankets hanged out around the singer is good too and cost zero dollar.

Thats funny you mentioned tha blanket thing cuz we tryed that one time out of a desperate attempt to make it sounds better and it did!..hehe....i jus thought that was funny cuz it brought back some good memories...

anyway you know what , you listen to ludacris, there is some tunes with reverb other without, and other rap like 50 cents sometime reverb sometime not. Your final judge still is your ea no matter what your workin with. Check that out!

Isn't bad to record with the microphone in the corner? I was told it was...just wondering...Yess...funny..blankets do work...it's nice....
you want a ceiling about nine foot lenth of 8 foot and width of 6 foot. these are the minimum specs you 'should' use... (i hve a boot about 8 foor high because i am restricted by the ceiling in my room........ get a mate who is a builder to build a small boot (alot cheaper than you might think) and learn about different treatment methods. it is good to have acoustic tiles than can be plave in different places for different types of vocalists or instruments with velcro. this is something i am doing at the moment also building a monitoring room and trying to save to ditch my noisey old computer (i always spend my money on gear before computer a bit stupid i know) good luck man i am on a main road with trucks and shit and it sucks for sure

There is no minimum lenght or height to follow nor specific material to use. You're ears are the judge. Do anything that will get your vocal dry, without echo and not sounding like in a cardboard box. I heard big productions that we're recorded in a closet. You would be surprised to know how much hits and classic tracks have been produced in apartments or basements. Work on your ears, that's your most expensive piece of gear and it's unreplaceable.

keep your window closed (if u have a window in your room) go close to the mic not to close u don't need a lot of annoying feedback....then just do your thing. However u do it to minimize outside sounds just find the best thing 4 u. u should be able to come out with some good stuff man just experiment with different strategies, you'll be aight........

b4 u start recording press record n let ur mic get a good 3 - 5 seconds of the background noise
then go into the fx and click on noise reduction
click get profile from selection n move the silder to 95
then click ok
reocrd ur verse now and then when u done recordin all ur shit on each 1 of ur vocals click on noise reduction then click ok..dont do all the xtra shit from b4 that was only to find the background noise this should now remove it...
it may sound comlicated at 1st but i been usin it for a while its a crucial step in editing ur vocals n works good when done right

The key is just to get a clean vocal. Boxy is better than noisy. Closet, bathroom, hallway, or wherever you can run the mic cord the farthest away from the noise. Buy some foam windscreens to put over the mic to decrease excess noise. Then with your clean vocal play with the reverb, chorus, noise gate, and other effects to get the sound you want. Double, triple, or more your vocals to get phasing and depth to the vocals and chorus. All in all experiment, anything different is good.
