Had another windows disaster.

alt to ubuntu studio. I have tried neither so i can't help you there. I'm running Linux Mint Bianca. It's ubuntu, but I am really interested in the flavors for audio and video production.

To all others. With wine, you can still run a lot of you winxxx proggies. Linux isn't all that complicated. But just like you read the manual for your MPC or MV. Read the linux manual too. With so much GUI support, not too much is done in the terminal/command prompt. But the more you use it, the easier it becomes. Throw it on one of those old computers collecting dust and before long you'll be running reason on linux too!
