Got this in an email found it funny and true...

If you are 30, or older, you might think this is hilarious!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning.... Uphill... Barefoot... BOTH ways… yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on my kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it! But now that I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!
And I hate to say it, but you kids today, you don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have the Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!!

There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter - with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox, and it would take like a week to get there! Stamps were 10 cents!

Child Protective Services didn't care if our parents beat us. As a matter of fact, the parents of all my friends also had permission to kick our ass! Nowhere was safe!

There were no MP3's or Napsters or iTunes! If you wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the record store and shoplift it yourself!

Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio, and the DJ would usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up! There were no CD players! We had tape decks in our car.. We'd play our favorite tape and "eject" it when finished, and then the tape would come undone rendering it useless. Cause, hey, that's how we rolled, Baby! Dig?

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called, they got a busy signal, that's it!

There weren't any freakin' cell phones either. If you left the house, you just didn't make a damn call or receive one. You actually had to be out of touch with your "friends". OH MY GOD !!! Think of the horror... not being in touch with someone 24/7!!! And then there's TEXTING. Yeah, right. Please! You kids have no idea how annoying you are.

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your parents, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, the collection agent... you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy PlayStation or Xbox video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like 'Space Invaders' and 'Asteroids'. Your screen guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination!!! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen... Forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel!!! NO REMOTES!!! Oh, no, what's the world coming to?!?!

There was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying? We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-finks!

And we didn't have microwaves. If we wanted to heat something up, we had to use the stove! Imagine that!
And our parents told us to stay outside and play... all day long. Oh, no, no electronics to soothe and comfort. And if you came back inside... you were doing chores!
And car seats - oh, please! Mom t hr ew you in the back seat and you hung on. If you were luckily, you got the "safety arm" across the chest at the last moment if she had to stop suddenly, and if your head hit the dashboard, well that was your fault for calling "shot gun" in the first place!
See! That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled rotten! You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980 or any time before!

Regards,
The Over 30 Crowd

I hear ya, it's so true. But kids today really do have it easy. Even if I need to find directions for an address, years ago I would have to call the place and ask what's near or how to get there. Today I can just go online and type in the address - boom there ya go.

I wouldn't say they have it easier, but I think we grew up better. My best friend and I joke about going over 20 years without a cell phone, now we'll be halfway to work and turn around to go get it LOL. Atari 2600 was more for the now 40+ age group, we grew up more on the first Nintendo, where Tecmo Bowl, Double Dribble, and Bases Loaded were my games of choice.

Why you start this thread relic now Im going to be reminicing all day.

I have Tecmo Bowl & Tecmo Superbowl in my Nintendo as we speak... much more fun than any Madden game in my opinion.

Great post... lots of truth in there!

Man I had a Colecovision http://www.gameconsolesedu.info/Colecovision.php

What do you think about that? Im 35, I had a few 2600's. My dad repaired them so I had a few. I remember having a TRS 80, it was my first home computer.
My favorite spot in the car was standing up looking through the gap between the two front seats, we didnt need seatbeats, we were 'ard. lol.
I went flying a couple times too.

haha, one of my friends had one of them.
remember dot matrix printers? lol

LOL In High School we printed all our papers on a dot matrix. Then i remember my senior year typing a 5 page paper, in the school library. I thought it was going to take forever to print, but I didnt notice the upgrade the school made to inkjet printers. I saw those 5 pages fly out I said "Oh Shit!!!", my english teacher looked at me and said "Hey!!". LOL good ol days.

On the real though, shit is much more violent for kids these days, I wouldnt necessarily say they have it easier, paedos werent a big thing when we were kids, you could go out and play all day and the parents wouldnt start worrying till it got late. And then we would get bollocked for scaring them shitless by coming in after 9pm.
If a kids out of eyesight these days parents start to get jumpy.

And the drugs these days are out of control in high schools. You have always had the usual weed heads since the begining of time, but when my neighbor told me his son was messin with heroin in high school last year, that was unheard of in the 90's. Only the junkies were on 'H' then not kids.

I'm glad I didn't have all the things there are today when I was a kid.
I'd even say that there was some more magic in the air. Now everything you need to know, just type it on google and bam!
for ex. you like some kind of music? You have access to all of it via the Internet and it can even spoilt it a bit because you don't have any difficulties in getting it.

but I'm also glad I've got all this stuff nowadays that I'm older. I just wish some old things or habits didn't disappear because of the new ones.

btw I too hate cellphones and the fact that one must be always available because of them...

Arnold from "Diff'rent Strokes" wouldn't agree with you! All kind of shit was going down in that series... pedos, kids dealing drugs in school, ...

edit: sorry for the double post!

1. Hip hop heads wore shell toe adidas with the black sweats, Preps wore IZOD tops and Calvin Kliens.

2. Our swag was our limp when we walked and when we stopped, we had that B-Boy stance.

3. Couldn't leave home without our BIG ASS BOOMBOX after school, and you better have some BIG ish or you better not bring nothing at all.

4. A Dime bag was a half of a sandwhich bag and stuffed!

5. Girls would actually let you know if they liked you.

Those were the days!

I remember having to look at the back of some rap magazine to see what was coming out in the next few months, then going to the store on the release date to pick up the album! Yes, album, not 'CD'. Now you can cop albums in advance if they're leaked online, or download them as soon as they drop.

Totally agree! The internet has in a way over saturated the market with music, and doesn't have the same impact as it use to.. people amass hundreds of thousands of songs, an instant library of music. There's no thrill in the hunt anymore.
