I would have thought you'd need to play the beat seperatley through headphones and record through Sound Forge then synch up afterwards. Not really too clued up on recording vocals as mine have always been done in the studio. But you could certainly play the beat back on CD and record the vocals in Soundforge.

cool edit or adobe lets you record on top of a beat.... sound forge doesnt, so what you have to do is play the beat in fl, and record your vocals in sound forge.... youll end up with an acapella... save the pella, open into a sampler on fl and arange it in the sequencer.... bit of a mission compared to recording straight into cool edit or adobe audition mind....

Doesnt the newest FL have its own audio recording and editing lane now?....Im just guessing, i dont use FL, but i thought i read that?....Anyways, everyone has offered good advice. What i would do is use something that provides a multitracking platform in order to record over your music like other members have suggested.

1. First export your music from FL mixed down as good as possible as a wav file.
2. Load up your multitracking software, ie. Audition, Cubase, Live, etc. (I use Live)
3. Open the beat in one track inside your software.
4. Open another new track and arm it for recording.
5. Record yer vocals and take several takes till yer shit sounds butter.
6. Id reccomend not deleting the first take unless it really sounds bad, instead continue opening new tracks and mute the old ones. This way you can pick and choose certain parts of your verse that sound best and compile them into one new track that will sound perfect.
7. Look into if FL supports "Rewire"? If it does like reason - then u can sync your music with the recording software and actively edit your beat as you record your music. (just a thought)

Good luck.

Duece's advice will give you more flexibility (if you have a multitracker Adobe Audition, Cubase, Protools, etc...)

What he said. I would also like to mention, if you're FL users out there are registered users then go to flstudio.com and check out all the tutorials they have on the site, if you havent done so.

and mantas pastes a shitload of fl tutorial videos. also go to asio4all.com and download the universal asio driver that tricks fl into thinking that there is an asio soundcoard on your computer

You're talking about tracking, which is probably the hardest part of producing to do (tracking isn't only putting lyrics on the beat, but its part of it). Honestly, you're gonna have to break your neck to do it properly, as far as industry standards go, without Pro Tools (thats why you hear EVERY major producer using that program, it just cant be beat for tracking). The best way to do it is to record the audio and then punch every bar...thats right...every bar, because thats the only way you'll really, really get your lyrics on point. If you want to do a just okay job, you dont gotta do all that, it just depends what kinda level of production you're aiming for.
