How is money generated for major artists releasing free mixtapes? Can't be all for the sake of promotion can it? Take Curren$y's new mixtape (which is prolly front runner for mixtape of the year). He has some major features and producers on that jawn. How is he making that back off mixtapes? Enlighten me.

I have no clue but I wouldn't be surprised if it was just for promotion. Maybe they get artists on there with promo for them as well? I'd like to know this too.

mixtapes used to be simply for promo. due to the fact that many times it would be rappers on industry beats that they have no rights to, and had to be free to avoid being sued for copyright infringement. but in recent times re: lord finnesse vs mac miller, this way of sidestepping copyright law has been thrown into question. mac made money through youtubes advertising on a very popular freestyle on someone elses beat, hence the courtcase.

I know at bricksquad it's 99% in house production. Lex and south sides 808 mafia team has a lot of producers.
