I own a sound system that plays at parties and stuff - and i would like to upgrade it to being a computer based - using mp3 off a computer - and i am posting this to get answer to these following questions:
1.) What software would i use......
2.) Would I still be able to have the features of a regular mixer board, like listening to the one side on a headphone while the other is playing.
3.) Do i need any special hardware like a soundcard or midi interface.....
4.) Overall whats it is tthe best thing to get

K,

Depending on what you wanna do you can do a variety of things. But it sounds like you are looking to upgrade just as i did.,,,Check it,

I have a PC with a Soundblaster 32 MB Card, A Beringer Eurorack 4input Mixer, Software varies to what you may want to accomplish.

I suggest
a good soundcard
Wav editor software(Soundforge is GREAT!)
Sequencer Software(I use Fruityloops 4)
If you have the money I would definitly say just go to the MPC!!!! But they do cost a nice penney!
A mixer into your soundcard, that will help you out with headphone action,,,,Give this thread some time,,,there's cats on here that can answer better then I can,,,but I hope that helps fam!

Nahh not for building beats, like instead of lugging around with two turntables a mixer board and records, i am looking to just travel with a laptop of mp3's, i only play at parties so there's no need to be scratching, remixing or any of that, so that's what i really wanted advice on.....the software i need or any special hardware to mix the mp3's without sacrificing the features of using a regular mixer.

You need a soundcard with at least 2 output channels, and a program like e.g. Traktor, PCDJ2000 etc etc. Also, there's a program which includes a remote panel that looks a lot like the remote panel for the Denon DJ double CD players, just smaller and for your pc for mp3. I would choose that option and include a small DJ mixer.

I am a DJ and I use my laptop on some gigs. I use traktor DJ studio 2.0 it has all the features your talking about, but you will need a good sound card with RCA out or Sound blaster software. I you want i can get you a hook up on the software it is normally $200, but i get you it for amde cheap so if you interested hit me up at blackomen99@yahoo.com
