Daily Hip-Hop News:
DJ Premier Hooks Up w/Christina Aguilera
Wednesday - September 14, 2005
by Carl Chery
After momentarily disappearing from the mainstream, DJ Premier is slated to produce several songs, including the first single off Christina Aguilera's forthcoming album.
While in Hamilton, Canada to attend the Canadian DMC World DJ Championship Finals, Primo phoned into The Mixtape Massacre show at Toronto's CKLN FM (88.1) station. During the brief conversation, the Boom Bap legend revealed he had been working with Aguilera and had given her trademark Primo tracks.
The DJ/producer also noted that he produced a track he describes as unusually fast by Primo standards and that Aguilera wants to make it the LP's first single. The track is untitled and has yet to be completed. Preme also crafted a song dubbed "Thank You" in which he provides the song's intro by scratching Aguilera's "Genie In A Bottle" and "Back In The Day," a homage to musical legends like soul singer Aretha Franklin and saxophonist John Coltrane.
"It's that scratching and cutting. All the beats are really unique. She can really sing. That's what really made me wanna do it," Primo told the hosts of The Mixtape Massacre show. "She can sing without having to have anybody coach her through her lyrics or anything. She's really got skills."
Primo also took the opportunity to plug M.O.P. -affiliate Teflon's new project, Contraband. The CD features spots from Styles
