I’m still on the fence on how I feel about AI in music. More specifically the use of it by producers rather than the blatant AI generated stuff.

I’ve been leaning on Co-Pilot recently for chord progression ideas as a starting point…and even that feels like cheating a bit. And it because “you have to figure it out yourself” but because “figuring it out myself” is kinda the fun of it. Noodling around on the keys and stumbling across a cool chord, be it through chance of happenstance, is what I enjoy. Also, hearing something in your head or a reference track and having the gratification of figuring out is a lot of fun.

Piecing together the mental puzzle is something I enjoy. The cool thing - sticking with the puzzle analog - it's like seeing the picture in your head, pulling together the corners, but then having to fathom into existence all the other pieces.

My chord progressions have always consisted of triads, seeing proper chord progressions will be educational for me, also the midi file it gives you is fully editable and changable as are the instruments it gives you. When in a creative rut I think this will help loads instead of trawling through splice or tracklib for something that catches my ear which can take a while. So far I've only used it to add to something I have already started.

As a learning tool, I agree, it's a great tool.

Unfortunately, I think in today's day, not many people care to learn in the process. They're looking for a quick fix in an effort to feed the algorithm.

Recently, I've kinda done a bit of chord structure "un-learning." Having fallen deep into the jazz realm several years ago I felt all my chords need to be these huge stacked extensions for reason other than "because I can."

Stripping back and getting down to basic triads (sometimes even dyads) I found it's helped with voice leading and establishing a more solid foundation for my tracks.

Another plugin to put the producer outta business... smh pretty soon these A.I won't need none of us
I dont think so, I dont think machine code has soul. Sure it can imitate but can it innovate? Its just a tool in my opinion, and shouldnt be anything more than that. Like AI powered EQ, can really help somebody that hasnt spent years training their ears.

In all honesty though it could mean we never end up learning to do these things ourselves, and overall that is a bad thing. I specifically want to learn from this instead of it learning from me, and I do like the sounds it has built into it, and it can be used purely as an instrument without ever using the AI features
