Pink Floyd is the greatest rock band of all time. I have a giant Pink Floyd tattoo. They are amazing.
they were iconic to me as a kid, already legends with many calling them the best band ever when I was a little shit tearaway on my free adventure holidays listening to pink floyd and saying fuck the system

I never used to entertain it when I was a kid as it was what parents listen to so I just deemed it likely 'some old shit'.

Saying that, there was some old shit as a kid I did like.

I always regret not realising or being able to appreciate the brilliance of some old music when I was a bambino.

I only started few weeks a playlist with classic material from the last century (all genres really) and ask older folks for great bands. But I didn't have Pink Floyd included. Big mistake. Thanks to you guys I fixed that now.

The album “Dark side of the moon” is the greatest record ever made. I suggest good headphones and setting aside time to listen to the whole thing in one sitting. If it doesn’t move you then you are dead inside. I think “wish you were here” is the greatest “pop” song ever written. Listen to “ Shine on you crazy diamond “ and “Have a cigar “ just good stuff. Also this band is way before my time, I think they broke up when I was like 11. You could make a compelling case for a few bands, but I think Pink Floyd is the greatest rock band of all time and that Radiohead is kinda my generations Pink Floyd.

Check out Genesis
Like the band Genesis? They do rock, I never expected to see them recommended here. This is where Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel got their start. Really good band. Add Rush to the list of old school bands to check it. Also, I have to do it. here is my Pink Floyd ink.

What @Iron Keys did your parents listen to and what was some old shit that you did like?

When I was much younger I grew up hearing via my parents Isaac Hayes, Aretha, Marvin Gaye, The Winans, Ohio Players, The Jacksons, Sam Cooke, all of Motown, etc. but didn't object to it.

I love 50s/60s/70s and some 90s R&B/soul, older blues (I'll go way back to that Smithsonian Big Bill Broonzy shit but I detest the Southern Soul novelty type BS that infects corners of "urban" radio), Funk, some Gospel, Black Rock (Living Colour, etc.), Hip Hop (but not the Trap/mumble variety and I don't think everything of the "Golden Era" was automatically dope). My ears are even open to Broadway songs.

Keep @Kane the MOD don't force yourself into listening to an artist or artists just 'cause he, she or they were/are/is considered GOAT and/or classic as both qualifiers are subjective and latter is about passage of time.

For instance Aretha is "Queen of Soul," MJ is "The King of Pop," Janet is "Queen of Pop" but I had to listen to each at different times to understand why and they all earned their titles. They all have songs to this day I'm unfamiliar with aside from their radio hits.

The playlist lacked Mississippi Delta Blues.

Thank you for your input. Much appreciated. Each one teach one.
I don't listen to anything I don't enjoy. Otherwise I would add mumble rap and opera.

Evetybody chooses their own music for different reasons. Why not force yourself to listen to something new? I only started listening to Pink Floyd after people told me they were the best band ever. I only started listening to hip hop because my friend recommended it.
I only started appreciating much more music from the 60's, 70's and 80's when I started sampling it

I'll @2GooD Productions force myself to listen to something new, it's a matter of making ample time. I don't have peers re: recommendations and I don't rely on algorithms. I go with my gut/mood but don't have to be in a specific mood. If it weren't for Reddit where I also inhabit I would have never listened to shit like

Oooo that track is fire. I spend 1.5 hours in the car everyday. So choose between listening to hip hop (which I did for many years) or to my classic material playlist with Rock, Jazz, Funk, Salsa, French Chansons, Blues, Gospel, Folk, Soul and R&B.

I think asking people for music recommendations is great because when Pink Floyd, Genesis or Big Bill Broonzy will come up I will think of this conversation with you all.
