I was a lightwave guy forever that I went to Cinema 4d, but I find myself working more and more in Blender in fact the belender 2.5 is AMAZING! Check out the beta.
I almost exclusively stay inside the adobe suite these days since each program works in tandem so well with another, but I def like to experiment with something different now and then and that shit looks pretty fun.
@Chris - I used Lightwave all the way back in my JC years....that program hadnt evolved nearly as much as it has now, but it was still really dope the way you could create textures and stuff.

Grab Blender for free and take the tutorials there are tons of tutorials for Blender.
