good question rigor, i have abosolutly no set up at the moment, being an "mc" (and i use that term lightly cause even im tired of my shit in that element of hiphop) all i needed was a mic, one of my boys beats and a studio or a computer to record the shit, now its like starting from scratch, i mean i've watched other ppl i know use reason, fruity etc etc, but i still have no idea as to what program is the best to use, what equipment i need, soundcards, all of that, all i have is a keen willingness to learn and a love for the music, i know u seasoned vets of this beat making shit dont want some newbie asking yall a bunch of questions u've heard a million times so i was just gonna read up on what i could and start from there, maybe asking some basic questions as i go along, but i dont know what i need to start a setup, prolly a program huh?

Well since you're starting i would advise you to go with software cos the setup will be more simple and less expensive, since i never saw anybody download hardware lol.
FL studio is easy to get in, but because it is easy in the beginning people guess it isnt as good, what they fail to see is that learning the ins and outs of it takes more time and effort then starting with it. So ussually they say fruity sucks because their ignorance keeps them in the startersposition.
I would also advise using fl with a wave-editor, for instance, cooledit, soundforge, recycle or whatever you like or fits you. FL also has wave-editing functions but i am no fan of them i must say, only for little adjustments.. That is if you are samplebased.
Plus fruity can be combined with loads of plugins, almost limitless... also lots of vst's you can play with if you aint a fan of sampling.
Reason on the other hand is harder to start out with since it as a contained studio environement, all in one sortasay. Try getting/downloading the both of them (i mean the demos, yeah right ;) ). But other people on the boards can tell you more about reason.

damn rig major props for that, i was thinking of getting fruity anyway because i know its the easiest, i can mess with the harder programs later on, say in 50 years when i finally start making good beats lol, and yeah im heavily sample based, i like the dj premier type of beats, thats hiphop to me, i already have cooledit because of the whole rhyming thing, so thats one less thing out of the way, wheres the best place to d/l the full version of FL?(oops i mean the demo version of course, silly me lol)

Welcome Quality to IllMuzik, RigorMortis is right about FL and Reasons, as a Reason user it is a bit harder to understand but with all the programs take your time RTM and then asked questions. Helping each other in hear is what IllMuzik is about.

@Q: check your pminbox.
@Taja: what does RTM stand for?
Plus is Xorlin a real city? And do you live there for real? Cos a city's name that start with a X is a rarity.

Its computer lingo cleaned up originally it’s RTFM – Read The F**king Manual, and Xorlin City was a city I designed in a program back in the day.

Welcome man. Nice to be seeing you on here
i know u seasoned vets of this beat making shit dont want some newbie asking yall a bunch of questions u've heard a million times so i was just gonna read up on what i could and start from there, maybe asking some basic questions as i go along, but i dont know what i need to start a setup, prolly a program huh?

Man, that's what we, or atleast I'm here for. There's no stupid question if it elevates. So, if it's anything, anything at all. Just ask man.

For the setup. The best advice I can say is, figure out HOW you'd like to compose/produce.

FOr example. I don't sample. I play my stuff on synths, guitar and midikeyboard. So I use Cubase cuz that suits my needs. And I use reason to program my drums.
But if you'r more of an sample kind of guy then perhaps Reason or Fruity Loops would be suitable.

So man. Get a lil think of how you'd like to do things. And if anything, just get at me with your questions

Peace / Andreas

He he. cool man. If you have any Q's don't hesitate to ask me. But don't take my advice as undisputed truth either. I have just gained my knowledge trough trial and error. There may be lots of beter ways. But in soem aspects I might have good ideas to contribute.

Peace man
