Pc issue

i had a virus that i removed but after i did that i tried to open some programs..the problem is whenever i click to open any program the Open with menu pops up telling me to choose a program you want to open this file...obviously something is wrong and i need help in how everything open back to normal

Do you have system restore available, I'd try that. Are you using Vista/XP? Here's an article that might help.

If worse comes to worse, you might want to re-format, viruses often leave nasty trails...

Hmmmm ok I understand.

Try booting into safe mode w/ command prompt and type the following:

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Then follow the instructions from there. Hopefully it works... I'll keep looking for other ways.

maybe try a F8 boot and restore to last known good config

Trust me...just re-install the software. It is time consuming and fucked up if you don't have the key gen or a crack...I have had 3 cpu's to fuck up in this manner. I just re-installed...As long as your files are good, it should'nt be a big deal

what are you trying to open?
sometimes you have to choose what opens what. most programs should be easy i.e. open a doc with wordpad or word, etc.

if that fails, you need to find out what was deleted and the status of your registry. go to your 'control' and open add/remove programs and see what shows up

everything i try to open gives me the open with...everything accept the internet

it looks like the virus has fucked up ur file associations

ur file extensions aren't associated with ur software so windows doesn't know what to open them with

if ur opening an mp3.. choose open with iTunes/media player (whatever u use to listen) and click always open with this program.. then it will remember 4 nex time
do the same with .doc & microsoft word/whatever u use
.txt & notepad
image files and photoshop/whatever u use

Ur gonna have to do that with every type of file.. either that or reinstall all ur software/reformat & put windows back on

damn lol...it gettin ridiculous that this wud be the 3rd time i need to install windows...i wish i watched porn videos at least i wuda earned the virus instead of being an innocent bystander

could be...all i do is download music but i think it can be my protection cuz i got a-sqared which is great at detecting everything but i need something to protect me from internet shit as it happens or attempts to happen

When is the last time you updated Windows? What service pack is installed?

Updating your service pack may fix the problem especially if your still using sp1. If not follow these steps:


1. Restart the computer in safe mode:
1. Restart your computer. While your computer is starting, repeatedly press the F8 key on your keyboard. If you don't dual boot in other words have two operating systems installed don't worry about this>>> (On a computer that is configured to run under multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot menu appears.) Move on to step 2 if you only have one os installed.
2. When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, select an option, and then press ENTER.
3. When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom of the screen, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.
2. Open My Computer, and then open the C:\Windows\INF folder.
3. Right-click the sr.inf file, and then click Install.
4. When the installation process has completed, restart the computer.
