where do they usaully fit in a track? I use closed hats and they sound nice but when I try and place my open hats in the song it makes the track sound weird? that kid

usually they are placed on kicks, and like dude said 2 posts above me, most commonly in hiphop it is placed a half beat before a snare on a kick

I agree with Jimba. You have to just feel it,... or at least I do. I have no idea what he means by 1/2 beat before third snare! I've been listening to music since birth, you just know where stuff is supposed to be. Follow your intuition!!!

try puttin them every half beat just for fun. Timbaland does it sometimes and Hi-Tek used the hats that way in 50 cents "Get in my Car" or every other half beat for a swizz beats type of feel
