in my opinion the best "current" producer would have to be jermaine dupri. the beat for "what the hook gon be"--Sick.(lol) nah for real though the best current or for that matter past as well, is Premier. im also feeling Ant right now from the Rhymesayers crew. hes produced a lot for atmosphere and them. he just produced Brother Ali's whole album.(DOPE). peace.

He had the strongest hustle of the year but that threat track wasn't all that...Not takin anything away from him it was a tight track on a poorly produced album and how hard is it to put a womans threat in furity loops chop it and add drums...The man has skillz but he has a long way to go to be considered one of the best at the moment

whoever produced the Dead Prez album. I think they did and some other cat, but that album in my opinion was the best produced hip-hop album, as far as beats is concerned. Otherwise, Primo is king, neptunes are boonieville, timbaland needs a bootkick, and dre needs some cronik. But hey, thats just me...

why is cats thinking that true hip hop production is a cat slicing up samples and that dirty sound? Don't you guys know that the orgins of hip hop music is dance oriented?! Busy Bee, Cold Crush Brothers (they harmanized liked Ja-rule and everything!) Treacherous 3, Africabambata, all they did was party/dance music.

Don't get me wrong, premiere, pete rock and those guys are dope and I like some of their stuff but to me and this is my opinion, if you can't make a party joint, you are a very limited producer.

Now for my list:

Timbaland - one of if not best/most creative in the game
lil Jon - don't sleep!!! Tracks and hook go hand in hand with this cat
Neptunes - dope, need to revamp their style and use some other kits
Just Blaze - dude has nice sample/keyboard beat balance in his work

lil jon is "real" hip hop
timbaland is "real" hip hop
neptunes is "real" hip hop
preemo, pete rock, diamond d (by the way, him and 45 king are also one of my favorites)

All these guys are "real" hip hop. Hip hop music is diverse, has no rules musically and we have to stop saying because a cat doesnt sample or if its a cut that you bob your head to as opposed to dance is real hip hop. Yall need to look at the TRUE history of hip hop. Watch the movie WILDSTYLE, AND EVEN BEATSTREET. I'm 31 so I remember 1979, 1980, 82', 83', like it was yesterday. Believe me, ALL THOSE ORIGINAL HIP HOP SONGS WERE ALL ABOUT THE PARTY, DANCING, FREESTYLE RAPPING, A DJ CUTTING UP A BREAKBEAT - WHICH WAS FOR THE B-BOYS AND B-GIRLS AND A B-BOY IS A BREAK BOY BY THE WAY. SO EVERYBODY NEED TO STOP THE SUBTLE DISSING OF SO CALLED NON REAL HIP HOP PRODUCERS/ARTIST.

CHECK THE NET- DO YOUR HISTORY CHECK - WATCH THE MOVIES I MENTIONED VERY CLOSELY

PEACE

Dr. Dre and Mel Man.
Timb then Just Blaze would probly be next in line.

and mr jermaine, neptunes and lil jon is not real hip-hop. lil jon is cool but he's not real hip-hop, and i think guevara cleared up the neptunes on his reply.

I cant believe you spelled Afrika Bambataa wrong. Thats a pioneer, its against the rules to spell it wrong.

u cant call that real hip hop them old school niggaz no doubt cause they started it but we ve grown from those simple ass stlyes and when rakim and marley came about that changed the whole face of hip hop and how can u say thats real hip hop when they aint doing what they do for hip hop they doing it cause thats what the labels want back in the days they was doing it cause thats what they wanted to do not cause thats what the labels wants to make money and help to destory to only form of street music we have left first they did it to jazz and now its being done to hip hop
