What kind of VSTs do you guys use for sounds or do you just sample a solo of something like a flute and then upload it into a sampler and mess with it there? Right now, all I have to use for sounds is my Motif and Sampletank and it doesn't satisfy what I'm looking for even when I tweak them. I just need a good amount of sounds to pick from. And I'm talking about VSTs not soundfonts. I'm looking into sampling from a solo piece and using that some more.

some good VSTs to check out

Rob Papen - Albino 3 (for atmospheric sounds/pads)
Minimonsta VST is pretty good check that out minimoog thing
hypersonic - a collection of lots of diff instruments
lounge lizard for rhodes type sounds
steinberg the grand (piano) - takes up a lot of HD space but sounds decent
native instruments B4 - organ sounds, this osunds like the real thing also good for FX
Linplug Octopus - good synth

Colossus man, its 32 gigs but all the sounds are top notch and it loads faster than sampletanks bullshit and has given me absolutely zero problems, a very solid piece of software that lets you jump right into the music making

dont underestimate the POWER OF THE EQ u really can tweak the sounds of sampletank or motif till the point that they satisfy you.

but if u really searching new sounds to complement your setup of sounds then i would suggest vsts that were mentioned above.

yo...sample. i'm serious, you can make 4-5 songs from one vinyl lp if you are a good enough sculptor and composer. doesn't even have to be a solo instrument...just mess around with it if you have the resources. think about it...vst's (good ones at least) are usually $40 and up whereas you can cop 40 records from the swap meet or dollar bin for the same price.
