Welcome to Illmuzik.

Beginner tips, Use quantize to start with. Set at 1/16 notes for starters.Play around with how that sounds in your software. If you need a software to start recording try Audition. Everyone has their own preference though. As you start really making beats and what not you will find what works best for you, but in the meantime it is good to check out tutorials and learns the basics.
Feel free to participate as much as you like here.

welcome to illmuzik. its a dope site. word to the tutorial advice. there loads here. and as for the software question i believe its all about what you start with. like i started on ableton and im great with it coz i got mad practice. so i guess stick with what you know (reason). after all its not so much about what you got than it is about what you do with it. in my opinion anyway.

I don't have monitors and my soundcard isn't too amazing. Just make music on and with what you can afford. Practice, practice, practice and if you still love it, buy all the equipment you need.

You will need to get some decent monitors, and a good sound card so you can hear what you are doing properly. Music is an expensive hobby.

I've got shitty speakers and a crap stock soundcard, but I've got 2 Beat This! wins in a row. Relic has got monitors (I assume) and a good soundcard, and he's still reaching for a win.

Lol, just fucking with you Relic.

Or am I?

No, really, I am.

Really???

Oh thats right...you dont have one...So you have to borrow mine... hmm.. LOL

Haha, actually I sent you a beat for your lil buddy a few months back and haven't heard anything since, so I'm assuming he only likes rhyming over your "No-B! having" beats. Really though, welcome to the site dude, you'll learn a lot. When I've got the space and cash I'll be shelling out for a lot of equipment, including monitors, so Relic's right in his own little way, if you want the best sound quality you gotta pay for it.

Welcome to illmuzik!!

Practice makes perfect....

Don't view your beats as something that sucks...they are works in progress..you listen to your beats and you figure out what you don't like about them then work at that....once you fixed that part, go to another and do the same thing....Music isn't something you ever master, you always are learning how to make your music sound better as you progress...Don't get discouraged; Dr Dre's first beat was nothing like his last, as is DJ Premier's, Alchemist, etc.

I don't own a pair of monitors and I've replaced my Sony MDR-7506's already. So I'm using $30 headphones and I like them better.

And yeah, Relic..you need one of those B! things...Like me...

And Cell...Next to my B! should be a $ OOOOOOOOHH

OOOH AND YOU USED MY SAMPLE THAT I USED TO WIN THE B! BEFORE YOU!!! OOOOH YOUR B! SHOULD STAND FOR BITER!! (nah just kidding you flipped it nicely, sir. Well done)
