no, they made a good decision. they are positioning themselves for free agency and (possibly) kobe bryant. they would be a very attractive team for kobe- he would have a (much better then, i think) scottie pippen type in shawn marion, and the low post defender/scoring presence in amare stoudamire to play with....... great ownership and fans, etc.
plus, they arent exactly getting it done with him. you cant really fault marion cause the dude brings it every game- 20 points, 9 boards, blocks, steals, one of the top defenders in the game. he just isnt your go-to superstar. this trade gave them cap room and long term flexibility- if they dont make the playoffs, they will have a good pick- but it was swapped in the trade and depending on the pick they may be able to keep it. they are often times conditional when they throw in picks. plus they get Antinio McDyes with zero risk- his 13 mil comes of the books this year, and if he cant come back to form they let him walk, and f he is still solid they keep him for a bargain price and still save money, giving them two strong, athletic big men in the west to go with (if they get kobe) the most athletic and skilled perimeter in the league- especially if joe johnson can step it up.
of course, they got a stiff for a coach and no one to run the point. oh well.
as far as starbury, well- its show and prove time. hes on the biggest stage in the basketball world now, he has one of the best ever at his position to mentor him in isaiah, a guy who played a similar game at a much higher level and can help him get there. plus he now plays in the ever-more-pathetic eastern conference (sorry guys), so he has no excuse not to go somewhere. KVH and kurt thomas make a decent frontcourt, especialy in the dwarf ridden east..... ... now allan houston could prove to be extremely lethal with a good point to run with. plus this gives mike sweetney a chance to show why they took him 7th overall....
.....or steph can show that he really ISNT the great player he thinks he is, keith van horn will be the next vin baker, and allan houston is still vastly overated. only now, they have absolutely no excuses.
