im still undecided on this style..... its cool because its the type of thing you would do if you just had an sp 202 or something... plus he's kind of doing something that is obviously not AIMED at radio or mainstream play, he's just doing hip hop raw..

anyhow he did this with "inna gadda da vida" for theifs theme, and now he is doing it with a loop of "for the love of you" for "good morning", which ifts nas's voice perfectlyif you ask me and its a dope hook as well....

actually i think i am decided... its dope to me, and yeah its gonna be a lot of dudes like "that aint creative, its just a loop, no talent, blah blah blah" im sure, but its actually innovative in its own way- a major artist like him doing something at the most basic of levels is kind of a HUGE eff-you to mtv and radio, basically saying to hell with their formulaic formats.... which is a major plus for hip hop as a whole if you ask me. of course i am sure he will wind up with some eminem produced, featuring-so-and-so track to contradict that middle finger (this is just my take on whats goin on, not any 'fact' or anything, just my observations )

any how i dig it and i'm expecting more of this...

This might be one of the first times this happened, but i agree wit you 100%.

Im glad he's doin this. I like it. Its somethin kinda new. Im not sayin its never been done before, but i think its a step for hip-hop movin away from mainstream.

bah humbug to the whole thing. he's got a sp-202 and he's looping shit himself to stay under budget on his albums. end of story. if the meaning of innovation is doing something that has already been done, someplace new then yeah he's innovating. whatever. theifs theme was a boring ass loop to me. if you're gonna straight loop, get a dope loop.

i'll reserve judgement until i hear the album- and according to his interview recently, it IS a double.

IMO, I like when song just have a straight loop. Good Morning is a good song because it just fits, his voice, the feel of it, all fits together, and when it all boils down thats all that matters. (I feel the same way with Thief's Theme)
I also like when a whole song is taken (i.e. Ghostface's Holla) and put to good use. I agree with merury that i must be a dope loop, and to me, those are dope loops.

...and on Nas's production, I am undecided.

i havent reaqlly heard nas's actual beats... my understanding is that they are all co-productio ncredits, which would lead me to believe that he just says "turn that up" and "make the bass louder" and "oproduces" in taht way.

oh, i already knew the song. its a straight loop... all that was done to the sample was reverse the panning from the original (unless they used a different version than i have) and gave it the "screw" treatment (slowed it down) and thats basically it. it doesnt even sound like new drums on top or anything.

I think if it sounds good then its kewl with me its not so much how you get there but the end product, am i right ?

However i wouldnt say its innovative i think sometimes we give artist to much credit its probably more like merc said in reality and we as fans make up things like well he mite be thinking this and thats so innovative when in reality it is them just being lazy ! Thats not to say its bad tho....
