I picked up my new MPC1000 last night. I'm pumped.

I came home and had a funky groove layed out in no time. I can't believe what this box can do. Completely blows me away - and I haven't even loaded OS 2.1 on it yet.

I have a lot ot learn, though. Lots of things to tweak, but it doesn't seem to be overly complicated.

Can't wait to start building my own sample library. I'm a guitar player, so I can't wait to start recording that.

I'm going to head out shortly (if I can actually pull myself away from this box) and go pick up a big CF card.

Also - I need to upgrade the RAM on this box. Anyone have any secret to getting a good deal? Do you think I'll be able to qualify for a rebate from Akai?

Thanks, everyone.

yes the ram is a good thing to have. Sometimes I like having 10-15 trakcs loaded at once and the ram makes that possible. Also I recommend the largest CF card you can afford. I have a 100gig hardrive in my MPC and once I do a few days worth of work I use the CF card to transfer files back and forth between my MP and comptuer so the songs can be burned to CD and stored. SO the larger the better.

Go out to Akai's website, if you send them proof of purchase then they will send you a free 128 card of RAM

So there's no limit to the size of the CF that the MPC can handle?

If you go to the Akai forums then you see lots of information. There is a thread of people discussing which CF cards work and which do not. http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewforum.php?f=15&start=0&sid=73669853088b15db8ab80732f6d06b9a

Chrono - thanks for the info. It looks like the free 128mb deal has expired. I went and picked one up. If they have a new promo, I'll just get a spare.

I also picked up a 256mb flash card. That ought to keep me occupied for now.

I grabbed all of my cables earlier as well, so now I can hook it up to my mixer and really start playing.

I'm going to load up the new OS tonight so I can figure out how to chop...

dopeness.

it will read up to a 2 gig cf card, also if u wanan save sum loot , the akai ram cost like 140 bucks, u can buy 3rd party ram for it for 50 bucks and itll work, only thing is u gotta double the size to get whut u want, so if u wan he 128 mb, u need to get a 256 ram chip
