not that i'd want him to recreate it a million times, but that was such a beautiful track with a style and approach that was NOTHING like anything before or after in hip hop and it just... i dunno.

Yeah, I feel you on that one man, fo' sho'. It hit me the same way. Speaking of styles; have you ever listened to "Moments In Love" The Beatened Version by the Art Of Noise? I know it's not hip hop but it might as well be by the way it was run through by hip hop artists. I'm talking about the slowed down version not the normal one. On the album it's called "Three Fingers Of Love" Check out the arrangements and the panning and just the total mix on that track! And that PIANO!! It's like .....close your eyes and go there....... well, at least to me it is. LOL! Hey PGyal I hope I did'nt stray too far from the subject. I don't want to jack your thread! LOL! I am just feeling that style. :)

About Traidmarks.. I say sometimes it goes way off and sinks the whole production.

I mean Lil John:
What's up with that stupid ragga shouting he's always doing. Screaming just nonsense words and his name 10000 times per song.. When I hear his songs I turn the TV/Radio off cus I think it's just redicelouse.
Same goes for Dj Clue.. Allways shouting with 100%Delay layered on it.. So stupid.

There's my point o view on trademarks. I think it's kool when the trademarks are musical. Like if you hear directly that it's this or that producer cuz of the style.
Then it's only kool.

Lemme jump in on this one....ahem....

P1 signature...

Chopped up samples EQ'd and filtered to death...
Basslines loose over the track but thumps hard...
Drums mixed well in the background, thumpin' hard...
Layerd snares. with a lot of Reverb

thats just how i see my production. i dont know if y'all think the same way...

When it comes to my musical trademark I'd sa it is:

*Organ, Rhodes and Guitar is my M.O.
*Really laidback and melodic productions.

This is how I see myself. How others se me is for them to say.
But I'd defenetly say that I have a very distinct sound. And that's a good thing when it comes to a consistent sound and a red thread through the producions.

come on man. seriously. I'm a newbie to beat making and all, but as a hiphop listener, I think you should be able to hear it for yourself

His drums are just "boom-boom-clap" the whole way, usually there's no change in patterns.

el-p- always some off-kilter or straight shuffle-less drums with dirty ass sounds, synths, strange vocals samples
blueprint- a lot of piano, sick drums, simplistic
rjd2- loads of old rock/soul influence, guitar
prefuse 73- fake electronic noises, gated as hell drums/samples, no holds barred sample collection, change ups in syncopation every 8 bars

agent smith- organic warmth with cold, mechanical sounds, big kick drums, layered claps/snares (sorry jestoneart), wierd juxtapositions of sounds that shouldnt be near eachother

lil jon- lives incorrectly
