MPC 4000plus or MV-8800 ?

I need your input on this, Im torn between the two. Akai MPC4000plus or the Roland MV-8800? Which is better and why?

I'm leaning towards the MV-8800 because I like Roland Gear and it looks a lot better but neither are great reasons to make an investment.

i like the 4k more...the 4k's sequencer is the business and its just an incredible machine...but if you really need everything 100% in one box- like mixing and mastering stuff- than the mv is a better call.

I suggest considering the 2500 too.. it's pretty neat with the HD and the USB and all.. Plus it got direct recordign too..

If it was my choice, I would go for the MV8800.
U can even hook up a monitor and mouse so it's everythin u need.

Dont hate on the 2500 or Ill make a trak on it that'll blow your ear drums out and make your brain turn to Jelly.

Get the MV, its more the future.

Roland MV8800. Great machine from demo of it and plus Reason is going to offer you more support than Akai is for their 4000. But all our responses are just opinions. In the end you will still have to decide which one will be beneficial to your setup.

its not always about gazillions of features for everyone...some people need everything in the 1 box and some people don't. i'm still a believer that its better to be an expert at 1 thing than a jack of all trades and good at a lot of things, and that's how i'd compare the mv and mpc4k. the mv is good at a lot of stuff, but plain and simple, creating, editing, and sequencing drums and samples is still better on the 4k. i for one hated the like 1,000 quantize functions on the MV but the 8 i have on my mpc just works right every time. things like effects and arranging (with the lcd) are definitely more there on the mv.

its also bogus how to access a lot of the features on the mv you need the lcd and the mouse...i thought the whole point of hardware was to get away from the clicking and all the visuals? i found the mv to be so packed with features that scrolling around the machine felt like a job, whereas the mpc just does what i need quick and easy.

^^^^ i agree .. the mv is like using a computer with all the options and diffrent things u can do ... the mpc is just a sequencing beast.. simple and starightforward.... impeccable timing and it just works... but to each his own some people use alot of features in their production.. not me ... i like the 4 midi outs too cuz i have 3 keyboards and a module and soon to be another module so those extra outs make it easy for me..... the mpc is the rock solid brain that my setup is built around... its the only thing in my entire setup thats irreplacable ... (except for when that 5k comes out lol)

I'm biased man, I'd have to say the 4K all day. I have one, never had a problem with it. It's pretty much straight forward. I mean, it's all on what you're going to be comfortable with. I've heard some good things about the 88, I've heard some bad things about the 88. Just like before I purchased the 4K, I've heard some good and bad things. It basically depends on what you're trying to accomplish man. No one can really sit here and tell you which machine is better. We can only give you our opinion. I hope that helps you a bit...

So from what I'm getting, it appears to boil down to whatever suits the user. Basically, if you want simplicity, the better option is the 4K, if you want more features, then the MV is the better choice.

I'm going with the MV based on the features. I get a kick out of mastering a challenge vs. just plug in and play (so to say...). I really appreciate all of you guys input and you've helped me with my decision tremendously.

I think I'm gonna go check ebay and just bid a ridiculous bid (like about $300 bucks more than the avg. bid ) to assure that I get it. I hate those cats that wait to the last 15 secs. of the bid and go $5 more...lol. I know thats part of the game but I have missed alot of good ish like that. Later on I found out it was Fade just fuggin with me.

Oh, tell me about it and if you haven't noticed, the time left on items isn't accurate at all. I fixed that problem though. Download "Adobe Air" and you'll be able to use "Ebay" in realtime. It's so much more convenient, trust me...
