the mpc 3k is bigger than the mpc2k. It has the S3000´s sample engine, while the mpc 2000 has the s2000´s. people argue the s3000 is much better. Having owned both samplers I think there is some truth in this statement, because soundwise the s3k is a little bit better, but i don´t think it is that important. The mpc3k can be hooked up with a computer monitor to enhance your editting possibilities.

mpc3000 has a max of 16 mb ram, xl 32
mpc3000 has an old fashioned style display(like the 60), xl has a newer style display
mpc3000 got the pads on the left, xl on the right

3000 was a roger linn machine the 2000 is just a copy of his work that doesnt swing or sound the same . 3000 is a better machine period i think the 60 was the best mpc though (sound wise)

the neptunes rock a 2000 xl so i think its all in you as of what you could get out each machine cause dre uses a 3000 and tim use the Ars and premo uses the 60. people get cault up into all the tech stuff too much...its all you.........its not the shoes but you jumping in them.

True fame_keyz, it's not how it looks on paper but how you rock it in practice...whichever machine that suits your needs and also, whichever machine you start to use, if you get familiar with it, you will most likely swear to never want another machine...

hmmm, i agree with that it doesnt sound the same, but swing the same? LOL they're both midi with a max of 96 ticks per beat, so what could be swinging more on the 3000

the 2000xl really doesn't have the same groove or swing as the 3000. They might both have the max of 96 ticks ber beat but the OS is very different. The 3000 has more of a natural feel in the quantize.

the real truth is that it is the man not the machine. I remember droppin some tight beats w/ a yamaha psr 510 it depends on how you interpret the sounds you hear on any given piece of equipment or software...no beat maker uses one exclusive machine. nor would I if I had the cash I would use every fricken thing out there just to create something new with it.... if it works different then what I do with it will be different but no one machine is better than the other. oh yeah and swing shming ya'll best be able to handle the real time or quantize at 64 and play that swing.:p

The truth is i dont really use the swing on the mpc that much most of my beats are always at 50%......i just forget to play around with it and before you know it that beat is done.

doesnt the 3000 also have internal sounds out the box?
that is also something to consider....... plus the ins and outs make for an easier module configuration.
