It's a taste question. sounds arent the same at all nor price. A motif rack cost about 1200$ and a fully loaded xv-5080 (so 64 mb + 5 64 mb rom) at 250$ each rom approxiamtely will cost more than 2k. Sounds aren't the same, some prefer yamaha some prefer roland.

A fully loaded xv will have way more sounds than a motif but i think you can upgrade it.

Go at your local store and try em.

My suggestion Motif ES synth board plus rent a XV 5080 and sample all the sounds to your Motif. I would do the same with any other module or keyboard sounds I like that the Motif doesn't have. I own an ES6.

honestly man.... i have never met a person who preffered xv sounds to motif, or motif es sounds....

i have owned both the motif rack and the roland XP boards, and the sounds basically the same except for extra tones and a"better" sounding engine, but dont believe the hype, they are basically the same, and the nmotif is far beyond them. dont even bother with the 5080 at this point.

The problem with that is that sound will be shit unless you sample every note or at least key-notes of every patch. If you record only one sample per patch you will have to play around that note to keep the quality good.

Havin the module and havin samples of the module is two things. You will cannot play with parameters or change original effects, etc.

It's not a good idea.
