Would it be better for me to get the mophatt sound module, since i already have the tascam 1082 mixer/audio card or should i get the emu emulator x and ad the mophatt disk to it. I really just want the mophatt sounds but what do you guys think would the best bet production wise. Also bang for your buck.

My setup

fantom x6
cubase sx3
reason 2.5
tascam 1082
cpu-music xpc

You'll have to track down a MoPhatt hardware module and who knows what you'll have to pay for it. I added the Proteus X to my rig and bought the MoPhatt and Planet earth soundsets and $50 bucks each. So basically I got the 3 synths for $250, if I bought the hardware modules , it could've easily been at least $900.

the mophat sounds are hella nice but if you have to track them yourself you may lose a lot of the quality. I had the mp-7 but no way of compressing the signal when tracking it and the sounds were just incredibly weak.

Ed_sizzahanz, 5th Sequence thanks for the info. Ed_sizzahanz when you added the proteus did you already have another soundcard and if you did how did it effect your cpu performance? Is there away to use both soundcards like can i switch between the two without causing my cpu to lag because of to much software and hardware. I don't think it will effect my cpu to much it was made for music production but I'm not sure. Thanks

If you already have a soundcard, just stick the EMU soundcard in there and ignore it. I think EMU has a soundcard compatibility list up on their website somewhere. Then you can just use the emulator or proteus X as a soundmodule or plugin and just run it through your regular soundcard. Proteus X does need a pretty fast computer though. I run it on an Athlon 2000XP and I don't use it too too heavy, but when I do, it really can hit your CPU.

Or you could get one of their MIDI controllers and just plug it in to the USB, that way you won't have to mess with another soundcard. But then you gotta buy the Proteus separate.

I use a Mac with Logic 7. I also have a PC with the Proteus X and some other plugins. When I run the Proteus, I can put the MIDI in Logic, and send it over to the PC, then I just pipe the sound back to the Mac and into logic over Digital SPDIF. I also use this software on the PC called Chainer that lets you open up VST instruments without having a full sequencer like Cubase or FL. Then its the same concept. Send the MIDI from Logic/Mac to the Chainer/PC, and send the sound from the Chainer/PC back over to Logic/Mac.

Its actually like having a sound module with crazy sounds, a full screen monitor and expandable, for cheaper than a MOTIF Rack or a Fantom XR.

I also got an Alesis ION. I had a MOTIF Rack but I ended up using more plugins so I sold it. For drums, I mainly use Glaresoft iDrum. Its mac only, but its hot. And to chop my samples, I use Glaresoft pHATmatik Pro.

I have a Tascam FW1884 so I copped the Emu XBoard 25 and it comes with the Proteus X le desktop module so I didn't have to worry about the soundcard. You need either the soundcard or the XBoard for the software to work, you aren't gonna be able to bypass that. The Proteus X is a monster on your CPU and was killing my old pc so I got a new one from pcaudiolabs.com to handle the load.
