I was curious to know what methods of output any of yall prefer when mixing vocals. Fury(who is currently at IAR) said that in school, he was told since they are recorded in stereo, I should mix them in my stereo headphones as opposed to Monitors or Mono phones.(he also said it to me like he knew this since he was 5 and that I should of known this already,,,smart-ass) Anyways, I heard this before, what are your thoughts?

but doesnt that go against what you said before? The monitors will limit, or amI confused with the terminology?
Nah you confused what he said. Monitors are in stereo (L & R) as long as your output is stereo. Thats y theyre called "reference monitors" cuz you get the true sound and use that as reference for your mix. GOod headfones can be used too.

Naw naw naw naw naw.... fuck that. With your style and stuff, keep them shits mono. It's only one voice... there should be hardly any stereo activity going on in there.

Vocals with too much stereo adlib sound crazy

I mean for the main vocal track. There's no sense in it being stereo... The MAIN track should be the same in both channels... any overdubs or layers or whatever, that's another story.

Your main vocal track should be in stereo, adlibs in mono.
Mix with speakersnot, or speakers not, headphones.
Even though it seems like headphones sound better it will sound like crap through speakers which everyone else is playing the song through.
You will also end up killin your hearing using headphones.
I usually "Record" them mono, then turn on a stereo plugin.

vocals in mono

then copy it and paste it in 2 tracks
left track
right track
then you can move one track a little bit behind or ahead to give it that echoish effect

i have never noticed any difference in it being mono or stereo until you start processing the voice with reverb or chorus effects. I've AB'd it many of times, is there even an audible difference? Besides adding processing?

with vocals evrything mono .. fuc a stereo

worst advice...One of the main things that bring life to vocals is reverbs, and having a mono reverb just makes no sense at all. EVERYTHING you mix should be in stereo. Obviously you record it in mono (who the hell records vocals with a stereo mic?? unles you're going for an effect, nobody)

I understand what some people are trying to say here, keep the lead vox panned center etc. But you're not understanding the concept. Yes, generally you will keep the lead vox panned center but after reverbs it turns into a stereo image. If you are gonna stack your vocals numberous times (mostly R&B/singing stuff), then keep 1 panned center, and then balance the other stacks left and right (generally not panned 100% either direction, closer to 50%, but this is all preference

anyways, i know i went over a few things that were already said, but i just thought i would add to it

Here's where I admit I had no idea what the hell I was talking about. I just felt left out.

But yeah, for STRESSWON, we should do mono. Mono is simpler and simpler is less time consuming, and Stresswon needs shit done as quick as possible

cuz he takes 4 years to record a verse. By the time he's done, i need to listen to albums released around the time he started so I can understand the relevancy slang used in that decade.
