How exactly do you mix a track? Im using FL studio but i dont how to user the mixer. so I took my music to the studio to get mixed down track by track but the engineer still couldnt do it because he said that FL aint Compatible with pro tools.Thats another reason im looking into switching to logic

how do you mix a track? dude it aint that simple. there are books upon books that have been written on this topic.

i suppose a couple of the main things you are aiming for is:

1. for all sounds in the mix to be clearly audible at all volume levels.
2. for all sounds to have a clearly defined position in the stereo image i.e. left to right and front to back.

but seriously, read a book or do a google search and read ome articles. buy a sound on sound magazine or something.

I dont see how your tracks arn't compatible with pro tools. Once your finished with your song with FL studio, do you export each track as a .wav file? Once you do that you can take and use those .wav files/tracks in any multitrack software on the market including pro tools.

he said that to mix it down i needed to dump out each track one by one.but when i went to do it he said he still couldnt mix it because as the sound was entering pro tools it wasnt coming out as a even sound. and what exactly do you mean when you say export each track. explain

All you do is goto 'File' - Export - .wav and follow the directions. If you have pattern selected it will export the pattern. When you have song selected the entire song is exported. I dont know what version of FL Studio you have, but click on a channel ex-kick drum and then hit Cntl-L. Do that for each track and that places them in the FL Studio mixer. Then when you File - Export - .wav a dialog box come up and make sure the option split mixer tracks is selected (I cant remember the exact name of the selection right now). And your good to go.

If you want to put your beat in protools (or any production program for that matter...) what you need to do is spit your beats so each sounds are separated.... You should have one file for each sound (1 file for the kick, one file for the snare, etc...) You can do that by:

- Muting all your sounds but 1 and export your beat in the wav format... and doing that for each sound...

- if you assigned each different sound to a different track in the mixer, there is a option where fruity can actually make one audio file for each mixer track...

Yeah Man the control button is on the Keyboard :) You just need to read the manual if you have one. Youll eventually get the hang of it, keep tryin.

Word, if you don't know how to work the mixer, you shouldn't have bought it in the first place.
