Can anybody give me some pointers or direct me to where I can get some information on mixing down songs in REASON 3.0

i.e what type instruments to compress,eq, max, stereo image....what settings to set the compressor to, should I use the mastering suite and if so which one!!!!

I'm trying to get my tracks to sound like some of the demo songs and I'm not getting my shit to bang like I want it. I'm bass heavy for one and I'm working on that. Any and all guidance is welcomed! Thanks

Quit thinking there is some default setting at you can use for your mix.
There is not.Every mix is different.Take the time to learn how the plugin or
hardware works.

Good God man....can anybody just stick to the topic around here. If you don't have what I'm asking for just keep it moving...is that so hard? I'm pretty new to reasons and if someone has a technique that works what's wrong with taking what they do and then building your way? Mixing is not easy! I'm not asking for the "holly grale" to mixing just what people who use REASON 3.0 have done to get a clean crisp mix and I'll build off of that! I am tickering around with the diff't things in reason but I'm sure someone has had it a lot longer than I have and if I can gain inside things from them I'm gonna take it! PEACEEEEEEEEEEEE!

have you looked at any of the stickys up top of this forum section?

i'm sure you could find bounds of info in there.

hmm...i guess you have

well, i don't really use reason, but one thing i guess i would do is keep bass and drums centered, and slightly pan left or right the other instruments. it gives the mix a more spacious sound.

also, compressing each sound may work...might not.

for crispness, boosting the mids and his via EQ may help.

in FL, i just basically compress everything...sounds good to me, but i know that's not the right way.

i know pianos, basses, and E. pianos sound really good when compressed just the right amount (play around with the compressor, don't really know the exact settings)

adding a slight reverb to stuff may help the mix sounds a bit less muddier as well.

Appreciate you at least staying on topic! I'm really looking for info from REASON peeps though. And I say this from the stand point of them knowing about the plugins etc that reason comes with. I know about basic compressors and eqing but Reason 3.0 has some new mastering suites and shhhh...good looking out though. I'm actually learning alot by seeing what they are using in some of the demo songs. Not many hip hop demo songs though.

You really need to know the art of eqing and mixing. It is more then knowing
what a few knobs do.If you put in the time to learn it (It is not hard)
it will go a long way in helping your mixes.
This one is a good read.

If it was easy everybody and they're mama could do it and half the horrible mixes we hear on the radio everyday wouldn't exist. It takes a special ear to get mixing and mastering down to a science. I'm going to put in the practice though! ONE!

one word

rewire

2 words!

TO WHAT?

p.s. I have acid pro 6 and sound forge 8 just started twerking with 'em though.
I also have Cubas sx3 but my PC doesn't have enough RAM to keep it going. It needs at least 385 MB of free RAM to sustain it. I only have 512 and it's allocated to everything I already have on my computer. I need to upgrade my shit....I know! one!

For anything that you want to sound a bit fuller and warmer you can hook a scream 4 set to tape and 9 oclock distruction and 3 oclock master (of course alter to taste) then link it to a default master suite and hook it into one of your aux sends so you can apply it to multiple sounds if needed. I use this technique alot recently with good results but for serious mixing I use pro tools still.

Best thing to do is make sure you have good source material. The better the material and placement the less doctoring you will have to do to them to get them sounding good in your mix.

What instruments to Compress, Eq, Max or stereo image. Well this is all gonna depend on how you want your song to sound.

Some of else like myself like having a EQ on everything this way I can or add in Frequencies (tastefully)

Compression - Some people dont use compression (I know im one of them) I don't compress my beats (i do vocals though). I like to sit and level/blend my sounds correctly this way i dont have to rely on much compression (or any at all for that matter)

Stereo Imaging - I personally like adding this to synths or fx sometimes in samples (depends on the sampled phrase)

No disrespect and I know this has been explained before but there really isn't a setting for the compressor to be on or any other unit. It really comes down to your sound and how you like to work.

Now after you make a few (just an example) Southern beats and you sit down and really mix them out and they have the sound you want them to have sure you can go to your mixing tools that you have hooked up to instruments and or whole chain and save them as presets for certain things. This way you will have a faster workflow in the future.

But generally there really isn't a setting for them all depends on the sound, your track, how you want the track to sound etc
