Finally, I can say I started really selling beats now... But I want to invest the money I'll be making on a midi controller. I use FL Studio and my sound card is real old (SoundBlaster Live Platinum, with the LiveDrive) and my computer is a Pentium 3, 733mhz which is also kind of old... with 512MB of RAM...

I heard that FL Studio got a lot of latency... is there any truth to that? And if so, what should I do to prevent that ?

-Change my sound card?
-Use a program that will speed up the info transfer... (I dont even know if that exists...)
-... i dont know...

well what should I be looking for?

P4? Athlon? And what speed? (I guess the answer is "the stronger the better", but what would be a strict minimum?

if your gonna get a new pc, i would get a:

p4 2.8-3.0

a gigabyte of ram (if you can afford more than do it)

2 hard drives 7200RPM with 8mb cache (1 for program apps and 1 for audio)

If you get it custom built which will probally be cheaper, make sure you get a good case and enough of the propper fans, so your system gets enough ventilation.

but if you dont get it custom built you dont have to worry about that, but it will be more expensive.

also if your gonna go with 2 hard drives, get SATA because they work together and file transfers between the 2 will be just like shifting files on a single hard drive

two hard drives is a must if u recording. not necessarily if u jus makin beats. i use a P4 with 1 gb ram but i use to use my midi controller wit half da ram n one hard drive. it still worked OK but if u tryin to really do ur thing the more power the better as stated earlier. i use a midi/usb cable so the connection is nothin really crazy. you can actually peep how i use my midi controller in my production video at

P4 3.0Ghz
around 1 Gb of ram... (got a good deal... he he he)

NOW... what are the sound cards I should be looking for...

I'm looking for sumthing not too expensive and with as low of latency as possible (of course) Suggestions?!

the photon x25 is good the keys are have a semi wieghtd feel and the audio is good, and its only 200, if noe get a delta 1010lt thats a eal good card and its cheap now i paid ova 3 for mine u can get one cheaper now, as for the pc, id rock with a atholon 64 or an atholon xp 3000+ cheaper and a better for multi taskin, p4 are good but expensive and also they tend to only do one thing good at a time, ive been rocking on amd for years now no complaints, I even do pro tools le on my xp 3000 pc, but the ram 1gig should do it,

i dont have the best computer or the best sound card but i purchased a m-audio fire wire solo and the sound quality shot alll the way up it cost about 200 dollars and then i got a lil memory. fruilty loops does have latency but you can fibd ways o get around it im west coast so i love that late feel lol... but there are sound modules you cab get that will beef up your sound that cost as much as a sound card.

You said the magic word (cheaper... lol)
I was thinking about taking an Athlon too, but I wasn't sure...

Are they both pretty close in terms of performance?

amd is real good now they got the athalon 64 bit it runs real smooth and i think the crash rate on amd is shorter dawg, there sould be a lot of benchmark tests online google it, but the key word like u said is cheaper dont go all out getting the most expensive thing when u cam save and get great result too..

this is a wierd/dumb question, but i'll ask it anyways...

what's the deal with FireWire and USB "soundcards"? do you need another card inside your computer?
