One of my homies copped one recently so I finally got some "hands-on" with Maschine for the first time and I gotta say, without even opening the instruction manual and just using it the way I would my MPC, its def pretty dope.
I love how swift its slicing facilities are and how u dont even have to leave the box to carry out most if not all of its functions...
The only thing I personally noticed that is probably more due to my lack of knowing where to set it up since it was the first time I used it was the velocity sensitivity on the pads...they felt great but I was barely getting any low-velocity action from the same pressure I would normally use on my MPC, but like I said, Im sure its most likely something thats just one of those things that needs to be tuned to each users taste and I didn't bother trying to find those params...
Pretty dope though, I believe i may have to cop one now if I ever get some extra spending money!

Plus I'm sure your MPC pads are nice and softened up by now, and you know how to hit those pads to get it to sound the way you want......

Word, thats what happened to me when I copped my MPC, i really started producing differently...The pads on the 1000 are pretty responsive but I did have to dial in the velocity curve and sensitivity per pad originally to get it to be just right for me...Im assuming you can do the same on Maschine hopefully...but one thing I really did love about it was how closely integrated the workflow was to my MPC such as holding shift and accessing features with the pads etc...its like an MPC on steroids cuz it does everything my machine already does + way more. Im def sold now...
Only thing I really wish it had right now was when you browse a kit to be able to still audition the sounds via the pads before committing to loading one, & maybe some input gain control for outboard sample sources...(hopefully i missed something and u can do that stuff though???)

You can audition the sounds but not via the pads.... just clicking them or scrolling down with your cursor.....
And one thing I'm not...is savvy with terminology when it comes to the equipment....So I'm not 100% on what you mean about input gain control for outboard sample sources...
Now if you mean controlling the volume of a sample you're loading into Maschine, I know you could do that....
When I loaded a mp3 from my ipod, you could control the threshold of the sound so it doesn't come in too loud or too soft...

Sorry dude, what I mean by "input gain for recording outboard samples" is having control over the gain for your sample source, ie. Turntable (instead of having to reach for your interface or control software for your interface, etc.)
You know what I mean?...like how hot you can push your levels when you record in, thats your input gain. Cuz that changes per sample and source so it would be super convenient to have control over that via Maschine rather then having to reach for your interfaces gain knob...not a biggy but its one less step away from leaving the box is all.
I do like however how it has the record screen and the level threshold the same way as the MPC...closet thing the MP Ive ever seen.

There's no input gain and audio characteristics of your samples will depend on what soundcard you use. it would def be nice.
i feel what you're saying with the prelistening function, but dude that was really an mpc problem, because loading samples took so fucking long. on maschine i have a snare on one pad, i copy it (incl. events) to another and then just cycle layers through that second pad with the browsers previous/next funtion, all from the controller. so loading/prelistening is pretty much the same thing here, although there is a dedicated prelistening function on the gui.
i recently discovered the niceness of the audio jack software for mac. not only does it support really low latencies, but you can route itunes to machines "external" inputs and sample stuff on the fly. totally changed my life

LMAO, its ok. But I agree, most musicians should go mac for no other reason than Core Audio. I mean why not support a company that's building stuff JUST for musicians and building it in to the OS. How cool is that. Once you see how cool Core Audio is you are DONE with windows!
