Hello everyone, I've been putting this aside for long enough and don't think I can take it anymore. I need to make music again. I plan to purchase a new workstation style keyboard or something else new. The last thing I used to make beats was a motif es8 and it was fantastic and basically molded how I create music. I was wondering if there were any advancements in the self contained (workstation type) machines. Or even an mpc style workstation that I can hook up directly to a midi keyboard. Computer has always been the last part of production for me and I like to produce on workstations as the WORKFLOW is so much smoother in my opinion.

For keyboards, I'm unsure. Most of the stuff today is computer-based but there are still some without of course. And there's some with a bit of both.
Are you talking about something like back in the day such as a Korg Triton?

Yes I have never used the triton but I believe it falls into the same category as the yamaha motif.. as a work station keyboard. The item you linked seems more geared for djing purposes do people use this for production?
I've always had an unconventional style of prodcution.. I like to load up all the 8-16 bar loops on each track on a workstation.. mute them and unmute them as I go to get the general sound. Then I transfer each track to a daw and from there I like to arrange the beat and also add some vsts or effects etc. I was actually hoping there was some hardware device that could work with vsts but maybe we are not at that stage in the game yet. I really do like to do all the creative stuff off the computer first.
I actually tried maschine I thought it leaned too heavily on the computer. It is not self contained at all is it?

I never really understood the whole software vs. hardware debate and how people can be extreme towards either end. I think it mostly came from old hardware heads not wanting to accept the change/introduction of software to the mainstream that was taking place during that time. Why not make yourself available to all the resources out there to help you create instead of limiting yourself? Everything evolves over time. Either you evolve with it or get left behind. Just my thoughts.
