For those of y'all having trouble "getting it", It might help to immerse yourselves into that sound. LoFiGirl and Chillhop both have live streams on Youtube that I've been alternating between for some years now. Plus, I have a pretty decent selection of music from both labels, though significantly more from ChillHop than LoFiGirl.

Both LoFiGirll and Chillhop have been staple playlists for me while working for several years now. I love the sound, vibe, and aesthetic. Some of it is a bit tooo downtempo and janky for me. But yeah, even when I seem to get the sound selection right or use plug-ins like Izotope Vinyl I can't nail it.

I may go back and try to give it a proper go again, but if I'm being honest, my tastes have kinda moved on. There definitely was a point where ALL I wanted to try and make was lofi.

Don't count yourself out tho if what you make sounds more like boom bap 'cause I done heard some boom bap-like joints from both labels that I swear would be dope with a nice MC on it.
