hey does any body use any use the roland xp-60 i have been doing some reasearch on it and it sounds pretty good they also said it has a good sequencer and effects, so i was thinkin about geting it off of ebay and use it with cubase sx and the akia s2000 so i can sample, but does any body know a good keyboard with a built in sampler thats better than the xp-60 wit a good sampler thats in the price range of 500-600 dollers.

then i could save money and not have to buy a sampler.

also for my daw

intel p4
40gb hard drive or 80 gb
512 mb memory
dvd-rw burner
m-audio 2496 card
windows xp
2 computer screens
cubase sx

is this good cause i am looking to upgrade so i can finally put some beats up

So you want a good keyboard from $500-$600 w/ a bult-in sampler, but you didnt say. Do you want somethin with a built-in sequencer?

ENSONIQ EPS-16+:

http://www.vintagesynth.org/ensoniq/ens_eps16.shtml
http://www.harmony-central.com/Synth/Data/Ensoniq/EPS-16--01.html

All those links are worth checking out. The EPS16+ is a sampler and sequencer. I own this thing and i love it. The only thing i can tell you is that the if you decide to get this, the best investment youll ever make into it is for the fan: http://www.hometown.aol.com/mishon66/Theecooler.html .
The sequencer isnt an Akai sequencer, its real different. It doesnt have SCSI stock, but if you get the 2X Memory Expander (rare) it has an SCSI Port on the back. It takes some time getting used to (if your used to Akai or Software, but i think its worth it. It probly wont be $500 so youll have some extra cash for Accesories. You can probly get one in Real Good Condition for $300-$430. If you have any question about it post it or contact me or BruceWayne or JayDub (we all got one of them).

dont get the xp 60 for its sequencer... its one of the worst sequencers i have ever used. cubase will be yuor sequencer. as far as a sampling keyboard, you may look into an asrx......

and are you looking for a phrase sampler or instrument sampler? there is a considerable difference between the two. if all you need is a phrase sampler, than truth is tha tcubase does an excellent job of that.

well i am looking for an old keyboard with some built in sounds wit an internal sampler from around 500-600. but i know i can probley get an asr-10 keyboard for around that price off of ebay. but i wanted something wit some sounds in it cause the asr-doesn't work. the reason i want a sampler cause my grandmom is giving me her old record collection and thats about 200 records of blues, jazz, and soul. or should i just get the xp-60 for the sounds and get a rack sampler and use cubase for the sequencer.

but if i have to go wit the asr-10 i will go with it i just need my first real good keyboard so i can bang out some good tracks.

really, you should try your hand using cubase for sampling before you throw away money on a hardware sampler. you can sample your record player just like you would record audio and manipulate it. there really isnt much that cubase and a few plug ins cant do for phrase samples that a hardware sampler cant.

as far asthe xp 60, i advise getting either the xp 30 brand new for $600, which lacks the sequencer of the xp 60 and has twice the sounds. or, get an xv 2020 for the same price, which gives you about the same amount of sounds as the xp 60, but with much better quality and the ability to add the srx cards (which are excellent) later on.

why are you so set on the xp 60? there are much better boards available for the same amount of money. heck, instead of the xp 30, you can get the jv 1010 which is the rack version for $250 on ebay. you can cop a proteus and a few cards on ebay for around $600 as well..... really your options are much better than the xp 60.

i owned both the xp 80 and xp 30, and both are good boards, but the 30 was better as a sound source (twice sounds) and can be had for much cheaper. you would do yourself a grave diservice if yo usettled on the xp 60.

ok, that makes sense as far as the sequencer. however, if you get the laptop then that makes the sequencer a mute point.

You know the EPS16+ aint gonna be $500. SO if you get it, youll have money left over. Use the money left over to get a nice Sound Module.

Then youll have:
-Sequencer (other then Cubase)
-Sampler
-Key Sounds

there is no reason for the eps... he already has sampling on cubase sx... people dont realize that, but it can and does do anything a phrase sampler can do. he isnt looking for an instrument sampler, not if he plans to use it for records.

guevara uses cakewalk i believe, and he uses that as his sampler. its the same thing. all you need then is a few decent effect plugins and he is good to go. it even has a serviceable timestretch feature.

are you planning on using it for drums as well? if so, you may be better off wit ha proteus 2500 or MP7- it has a sequencer and a better soundset for that. plus, you could cheaply add a jv 1010 for the xp sounds.
