ok i got it in the mail today. im trying to set it up with my axiom but the fuckers over at m audio wont send you a external power supply with the axiom.
i read in the manual that you cant use the axiom with a sound module without a external power supply. is there any way i can do this or should i belive the manual?
ANY random help on setting up this motif with the axiom would be great though thanks
The usb chord is only serving as a power chord for the axiom in your case unless you're actually using it with a DAW.
If you just want to use the Axiom to trigger the rack all you need to do is make a midi connection using midi cables. OUT of the Axiom and IN to the es rack. In order to hear the sounds without using a DAW of course you'll have to connect cable from the left and right out of the es Rack to channels of your mixer or external sound card inputs that go to a mixer or straight to your speakers, headphones etc.
Regardless of how you're using it, with or without a DAW, everything has to be connected thru midi cables and possibly a midi interface. The only difference is that if you are using a DAW that usb cable from the Axiom serves are a power cable and a midi cable and you'd have to set up the midi interface from the Axiom within your DAW.
Do yourself a favor and go ahead and get that external power chord for your Axiom in the near future. Having the power thru usb and the midi thru usb will become and issue sooner or later. Power and midi cables being separate is the way to go to ward of problems later. Things will be more stable!
If u look on the back of the Axiom you'll see the voltage you'll need in a power chord. Should be 12VDC, the polarity of routing of that power chord will be important as well so make sure the power chord that you get allows you to switch to the right polarity i.e positive + to negative - or the opposite. U can pick up that cable from Wal-Mart, Target or Radio Shack like someone else already mentioned. 20 bucks or less should take care of it. Getting one with multiple changeable connections is best.
