ok, i just got adelphia cable internet, and i have a question. when i click on the network monitor in bottom right hand side of the screen it says that im connected to an unsecured wireless network, does this mean people can see what i'm doing, and if so how do i prevent people from seeing me

use a secured wireless network, firewall, or just use the ethernet port.

you mean they sell secured wireless networks?

i went to options on the networks contral pannel and i turned on the fire wall and shows the little lock, but it still says unsecured.

I'm using the router beacuse i dont have a cable outlet by my computer, but i have the modem hooked up to the router by way of the ethernet port.

i think it's an issue with your router. to be secured you have to enable wep and assign it a key, so only you can access your internet connection, that way for example, i can't go to your block and sniff out your connection with my laptop and use your internet for free. what kind of router do you have? that way i can help you further.

that router does have wep. that's what you have to enable in order to secure your wireless connection. the manual should have a lot of info on how to go about it. if you type 192.168.1.1 in your browser it'll take you to your routers config page where you can make changes, but go here http://www.dslreports.com/forum/linksys and search, you'll be able to find what you're looking for.
